PhoTran is a Vietnamese restaurant on Magazine Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, serving familiar Vietnamese favorites in a convenient Uptown location. You’ll find it at 2005 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70130. The restaurant has a 4.8-star rating from 405 reviews, and customer experiences describe a mix of flavorful meals, generous portions, and quick, friendly service. It’s a practical choice when you’re looking for pho, a rice plate, or a casual meal with Vietnamese flavors in the city.
Pho is a central part of the menu, with options that customers have tried ranging from meatball pho to the Pho Tran Combination, also described in a review as pho dac biet. Guests mention hot, fresh-tasting broth and portions they felt suited the price and location. Opinions about the broth are not uniform: one diner found the special pho too salty, while others praised its flavor. That difference makes it useful to know that individual preferences vary, but the combination pho remains one of the dishes people specifically discuss when sharing their visits.
There are choices beyond pho for a meal with different textures and flavors. Reviewers mention an egg noodle soup special, a combination rice plate, and grilled pork, or thit nuong, which one Vietnamese American customer described as delicious and authentic-tasting. For starters, guests have ordered eggrolls and crab rangoon, while another review highlights a flavorful dish called “chao chao.” Passion fruit with chia seeds is also mentioned as a drink. These customer examples offer a helpful sense of what diners have enjoyed without suggesting that every visit or dish will be the same.
Customers describe the dining room as clean and nice, and several reviews point to fast, friendly service. That combination can suit a relaxed lunch or dinner, a casual stop with a partner, or a meal with friends who want a choice of soup, noodles, rice, and appetizers. The range of dishes also gives a group more than one way to order, whether someone is in the mood for a bowl of pho or prefers a rice plate. As with any restaurant, tastes differ, so reading the menu and choosing what appeals to you is part of the experience.
PhoTran is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and closed Wednesday, according to the listed hours. If you’re exploring Magazine Street or looking for a Vietnamese restaurant in New Orleans, it’s a local option for pho, grilled pork, noodle soup, rice plates, and familiar appetizers. The customer feedback offers both praise and a few differing opinions, giving visitors a grounded picture of a neighborhood dining choice rather than a promise that every dish will fit every palate.

For a city with street signs in Vietnamese, how can the standard for a Viet restaurant be so low??! People who rate this place highly have apparently never had pho in SoCal, Philly, NYC or even Boston. Ordered the pho dac biet, and was utterly underwhelmed. The broth was over-salted and tasted like it came from a packet, not homemade / made from scratch. Small quantity of meats, and even noodles. Stingy amount of basil and sprouts, also. To cap off the experience, they also couldn’t / wouldn’t (??) give me a copy of my credit card receipt. Who does that?? In summary, skippable. Guess all the great Viet spots moved to Houston?
Friendly fast service. We started out with passion fruit and chia seed for drinks. Eggrolls and crab rangoon for appetizers . For entrees we order house special pho and combination rice plate . Everything came quick and delicious.
So glad we went here! We started with the chao chao which was so flavorful (forgot to take a picture before we ate it 🤤). My husband ordered the meatball pho, and I got the egg noodle soup special. Both were so good. We will definitely be back!
The Pho was really good! I ordered the Pho Tran Combination (Pho Dac Biet) for $16.99. Food portions were enough to fit the price range. The broth also tasted really fresh and hot. The inside was really nice and clean. Great location on …
Very authentic tasting food. The thit nuong or grilled pork was delicious. Pho was flavorful and good portions for the pricing and location. Service was quick and friendly. My partner and I are both Vietnamese American and we’re very happy to find a place close to home uptown that was authentic
