I love almost everything Kei Concept touches, and safe to say this restaurant is one of their concepts that I definitely enjoy. Parking: Free parking lot, but it can be difficult to find an open spot during lunch & dinner rushes. Ambiance/Environment: I love the interior. It’s very spacious with a comfortable waiting area, plenty of indoor and bar seating, and outer area seating. The bar is eye catching, and the decor itself is aesthetic. Since the restaurant is newer, all the tables and chairs are nice and clean. Service: We booked a reservation and were seated in a timely manner. You can book reservations through Open Table. Thank you Kody for taking care of my date and I! He checked on us a couple times. Throughput was also quick after ordering. Food & drinks: 1) Chicken Cartilage w/ Mala BBQ Spice - Starting off with appetizers. These were seasoned perfectly, and the Mala BBQ sauce made it even more delicious. Personally, I don’t prefer cartilage. Each piece had cartilage, and it was difficult for me to chew. 2) Dan Dan Sesame Noodle - This included ground pork, sichuan chili oil, cucumbers, and scallions. What makes Dan Dan noodles is the sauce. Their sauce has a hint of spice and slight creaminess. It was a bit too oily for my liking, but it was seasoned well and made the dish sooo delicious. 3) Forbidden Jade - I get anything with tequila in it lol. This included blanco tequila, bergamot, del santo, lime, bitter melon, cucumber, peppercorn, and sichuan salt. It was definitely strong, fruity, and citrusy. Pricing: Prices reflect elevated dining. Of course it’s more than your average Chinese restaurant. It’s okay to treat yourself to a nice dining experience once in a while. I’d definitely come back to try their other dishes! You’ve all seen QUA on social media and we’ve all heard the buzz, but is it really worth a visit? This was my second time here, so here are my true thoughts. The interior is posh and swanky, with a nod to Chinatown influences, with phenomenal service as expected from a Kei Concepts restaurant. I love the drinks we got, like the Ming Dynasty cocktail that was both complex and spicy, and the Hong Kong milk tea. Utterly OBSESSED with the crab roe dish--you can get it over rice or noodles, and comes in a cute presentation. Most people’s biggest complaint is the pricing, but honestly, it’s pretty on par with other higher end spots in OC. My favorite bites are the Sichuan bang bang chicken and the sinfully delicious dongpo rou that literally just melts away in your mouth. Would I come back? Yes, and definitely won’t forget to make a reservation! Thanks for reading! ^-^
Review 40/365 Day Challenge I've always heard about Qua restaurant since I've dined a lot at the Kei Concepts and they are always emailing regards to restaurants promotions and new restaurant coming into their group. Qua is a contemporary Chinese restaurant with a fine dining exquisite experience type of vibe. I thought for a 2nd it was a dim sum menu but they serve more than that. I ordered the Hong Kong Tea to go and it was good. Saw that lot of people were getting that. A popular milk tea served w grass jelly topping and has a cold foam caramelized brulee topped had mee wanting it and i knew This is a must. It’s not surprisingly overly sweet. The servers associates were all so friendly and attentive. Came by to refill the waters along cutting our "Dong Po" aka thick pork belly, so it may be served. Lots of tables for dining. Really big and huge open. Stool chairs around the nice bar in the center. They have a banquet room hosting around 20-30 people and even have a back area of the restaurant where you can go towards the restroom for more intimate private dining to host a celebration. Right when you walk into the restaurant. The atmosphere is really beyond exceptional and beautifully built with a modern yet Asian twist to it. Currently had it decorated for Valentine’s Day along w Tet/Lunar New Year Holiday. Lovely beautiful red paper flowers and coy fish on the wall for decor. I love it here and plan to visit one day back with my family to try out other stuff on the menu. Parking is huge. Located in same plaza as Albertsons grocery store, Brodards restaurant and right next to Goodwill. Tip~DEFINITELY RECOMMEND trying the other KEI CONCEPTS restaurant in their group. You won't be disappointed.
I visited QUA in Fountain Valley with high expectations because the restaurant is beautifully designed and has a very cozy, inviting ambiance. The service was the highlight of the night, our server was incredibly sweet and attentive. However, the food was a bit of a hit or miss for me. Crab Roe Noodles: This was the dish I looked forward to the most, but it was unfortunately too salty and felt quite heavy/rich after a few bites. Kaya Toast: The toast itself was tasty, but it was very sweet. When paired with the soft boiled eggs, it became a bit too cloying for my taste. Char Siu Fried Rice: Great flavor, but there was a significant amount of excess oil. Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow): These were excellent, the skin was the perfect thickness, and the shrimp was fresh and snappy. Tofu with Century Egg: This was actually the best flavor taste of the night, but it was extremely spicy that I couldn't eat more than a couple of bites. Peach Oolong Tea was refreshing. Overall, it's a lovely spot for the vibes and service, but I wish the seasoning were more balanced. I may return to try other dishes.
