Roche Bros. Downtown Crossing is a supermarket at 8 Summer St in Boston, MA, serving downtown residents, commuters, workers, and visitors who need groceries in the city center. Its location makes it a practical stop for stocking up during a visit or picking up food and snacks for the day. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., offering a wide window for shopping before or after many daily activities. Customer feedback is mixed overall: the business has a 4.3 rating from 1,504 reviews, with shoppers describing both convenient visits and experiences that could be improved.
Fresh produce is one of the store’s most frequently appreciated features. Customers describe finding good-quality fruits and vegetables and say the supermarket is well stocked, with a range of food that leans toward healthier options. That can make Roche Bros. a useful choice for travelers looking to replenish everyday essentials, as well as for locals planning meals at home. Reviewers also mention that they can generally find what they need, and some report that staff are available to help locate items. As with any busy downtown grocery store, the selection and shopping experience may depend on the time of day and current store conditions.
The bakery adds a convenient option for something sweet alongside a grocery run. Customers have called out cupcakes and a key lime tart, while broader comments praise the prepared food they have tried. These are customer impressions rather than a guarantee that a particular item will be available, so shoppers with a specific treat in mind may want to check in store. The supermarket can suit visitors who want to pick up snacks before exploring Boston, commuters grabbing a few essentials, or nearby households shopping for produce and pantry items. Reviews also note that the store can feel crowded and take time to move through, so allowing extra time may make a visit more comfortable.
Feedback also includes concerns about prices, customer service, and a reported case involving expired, puffed-up packaged soup. Those are individual customer reports, not a substitute for the store’s own response, but they are relevant context for shoppers. Check dates and package condition on refrigerated or prepared foods, and speak with store staff or management if something seems wrong. Other reviewers describe helpful employees and straightforward shopping once they have made their way through the crowd, underscoring that experiences vary. For a downtown Boston supermarket with fresh produce, bakery treats, and extended daily hours, Roche Bros. Downtown Crossing offers a convenient option while leaving room for shoppers to weigh recent feedback and their own priorities.

This grocery store is located right in downtown Boston. Great place while traveling to buy some snacks for your adventures. The fresh produce is amazing. If you are wanting something sweet the bakery has some great offerings. I had a key lime tart that was very good. If you get the cupcakes let them thaw out before eating. They are refrigerated which means the cake is a bit dry and icing hard. Once at room temp for a while they were much better! Checkout is fast because they have so many registers. Unless you have your own bag you will have to pay for one.
Not only did I find expire Panera clam chowder on the shelf from the month of JULY & another that expired the next week but the plastic was PUFFED UP before even opening which is a sign of bacteria growth….their customer service SUCKS manager has an attitude & knows nothing about their services smh. Cashiers all they know how to do is press a button….Do not waste your money here…Trader Joe’s market basket stop and shop. Americas food basket Anywhere else but here!!
Intend to spend your whole paycheck here on 15 crumby items and get the added bonus of being treated like a criminal as soon as you walk in?! This is a town full of commuters and the store is on a subway line. If you come in with a backpack ( to carry your purchased food in), it doesnt matter if you have a cart full of groceries, you will be followed around and given dirty looks. Why not try paying for a proper security team monitoring cameras, Roche Bros? Lame all around. Only produce that is organic is pre-packaged, meat and fish selection is tiny and terrible and there's more than a good chance you won't find what you're looking for. I strongly encourage everyone to go in with a mask and a backpack while doing your shopping just to troll them.
This is a great place. The cupcakes are just a little over baked but overall the food they make is really great. Takes a bit to move around the store but overall once you get through the crowd things are easy to navigate. Best shopping experience I have had so far
This is a great and fully stocked downtown supermarket that leans to healthy foods. When I visit Boston, it's an early stop to stock up on supplies. I always find what I need and, if I can't, the helpful staff is always available. Most important for me, the produce is fresh and good quality.
