Sign in to reviewJimmy is simply the best. I recently had a number of serious surgeries, as well as ER visits, which just made me feel so ugly again. Jimmy did my hair and put the wind in my sails. This is the most beautiful my hair has ever looked.
I consider myself very lucky to be Jimmy's client. He is very happy with his regular clients and rarely accepts new ones. I was one of the lucky ones because my regular hairdresser passed away, and Jimmy knew him. And, wow, Jimmy gave me the best blade haircut I have ever encountered. He is a master with the blade!
Go for a haircut – – and get an insult. I have used this barber, or stylist, for a few years. He has told me that the success of his practice is based on not just his hair-cutting but the psychological therapy that he doles out alongside it. It’s true that he often asked what’s happening in the neighborhood, and I asked him the same. But the last time he just, incredibly, insulted me. How he expects to get away with this sort of behavior I have no idea. I’m 85 and don’t have a lot of hair to cut, truth be told. But I still tip every 4 weeks. This fellow also speeds things along at a quick march while you are there. (This may be because he is there only three days a week.) A service provider telling an elderly patron to take off his glasses and "hasten" to the shampoo bowl is disrespectful. He seems to see himself as the commander and you as the subordinate. I have patronized many businesses in my life, here and abroad. I have never been treated with such misplaced arrogance. If you are looking for a simple haircut, look elsewhere. If you want to be insulted and "analyzed" by someone with no credentials to do that, this is the place for you. As for me, I have found a nearby stylist who gives me a better haircut, and no insults.
Jimmy is the absolute best. I decided to bleach my virgin hair and he was able to do it in one session. Since then he’s been with me on my hair journey to orange and red. Hes just a genuinely great guy. I was having trouble styling my hair once it was bleached, since it was my first time dealing with it, and he had me stop by and gave me a little lesson on how to style it with recommendations to products. Just real, down to earth. I feel fortunate to have found him!
DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON! Jimmy destroyed my hair. In October of 2024, I came into Salon 837 with mid-length, healthy brown hair and having read reviews online I thought I could trust Jimmy to dye my hair blonde while keeping it long, but boy was I wrong. Not only was I charged $500 for a yellow dye job that fell out in clumps resulting in an unwanted pixie cut, when I went to another salon months later to try and salvage what was left of my hair I was told the dye he used was so strong that when this other salon had accidentally ordered it (instead of putting it onto paying customers hair, like Jimmy) they poured it on the concrete outside their building, that’s right- he put a dye strong enough to bleach concrete onto my hair. My formerly long, healthy hair was bright yellow when I wanted it a white bleached color, and the consistently of straw. Even the blunt pixie cut I was forced into couldn’t hide how many different lengths it had split off into. Somehow, I was convinced to revisit Jimmy for a touch up on my roots, I assumed this would be free because he had destroyed my hair- nope- I was charged around $300, for a root touch up, mind you he couldn’t even successfully dye my roots to match the yellow of my hair, he let me leave the salon with orange roots. I’ve spent the last 10 months attempting to regrow my hair, I’ve poured hundreds of dollars into olaplaex, k18, and not touching it with bleach, yet it has barely grown 2 inches and is still completly broken and all different lengths. Not only did Jimmy at Salon 837 destroy my hair, he destroyed my bank account (charging ridiculous prices) my confidence and trust in stylists. Don’t end up like me, don’t go here. Thanks a lot, Jimmy.
