I really wanted to like Salon Jo-el, so I’m pretty disappointed to be writing this review. I came in with a clear idea of what I wanted & showed Josie the first photo I’ve included. It’s AI-generated, but it was created using a photo of me with my actual hair, so the length shown is the length I had when I walked in. I wanted to keep that length & go darker & more dimensional with highlights, lowlights & a mushroom/beige glaze. For the cut, I was very specific that I only wanted a trim of ~¼ inch off. Josie suggested going shorter into more of a bob & I told her I wasn’t interested in that. I already had a slight A-line and wanted to clean it up. Unfortunately, that isn’t what happened. Once she started cutting, she kept going. I ended up losing closer to 2-3 inches & walked out with a much shorter, more dramatic A-line/bob than what I asked for. After getting home & looking at it, I realized the cut is uneven. My right side is longer than my left. I don’t know how to fix the unevenness without cutting even more hair off, which is the last thing I want. I don’t want to spend another $100+ fixing a haircut after I spent hundreds at this appointment. The color was another disappointment. The whole point of the mushroom/beige glaze in my reference photo was that I wanted to go noticeably darker. The highlights & lowlights were done, & the glaze was applied at the end. It wasn’t until everything was completely finished, cut and blow-dried that Josie asked what I thought of the color. I told her it was okay, but had expected it to be darker. That’s when she told me they didn’t have the darker glaze I wanted in stock, so she chose a lighter one for me instead. This really bothered me. If the color we discussed wasn’t available, I should have been told that BEFOREHAND. Instead, a lighter glaze was chosen without asking what I wanted. I wasn’t given a choice. Unfortunately, my color doesn’t look different from what I walked in with. I spent hundreds of dollars to end up with essentially the same overall hair color & a much shorter haircut that I did not want. I want to be fair and mention that when Josie asked me at the salon if I liked my hair, I said yes. By that point I was anxious about how much had been cut off & just wanted to get out of the chair & go home. I wanted to give myself some time with it because sometimes you need to style your hair yourself & sit with a change before deciding how you really feel. So, I gave it the weekend. I like it even less now than I did when I left. I’m unhappy with the length, I don’t like how dramatic the A-line is, it’s uneven, & the darker color change I was excited about isn’t there. I’m honestly embarrassed and self-conscious about my hair right now, which really sucks after spending that much money & being so excited going into the appointment. I do want to say that Josie was very sweet & everyone I interacted with at the salon was nice. I’m not saying she’s a bad hairstylist, and I’m not writing this because I’m looking to get anything from the salon. I chose Salon Jo-el because of the reviews I read & I think it’s fair for someone considering the salon to know about my experience. I brought in a clear reference photo, asked for ¼ inch off, said I didn’t want to go shorter, & explained the darker color I wanted. I walked out with a much shorter, uneven cut & a lighter glaze that I wasn’t even told was being substituted until it was already done. Hair grows back & color can be changed, but neither happens overnight. Salon Jo-el just wasn’t the right fit for me. Salon Response Update 08/26: As stated in my orig. review, I told Josie before leaving that I expected the color to be darker. That’s when I learned the glaze I requested wasn’t in stock & a lighter one had been used. I wasn’t told beforehand or given a choice. That isn’t a miscommunication; it was a decision made without my input. I don’t believe customers should be criticized for leaving reviews just because they didn’t ask for a manager.

I had such a great experience at this salon! I went to Tava, and she was absolutely amazing. Not only is she incredibly talented and so good at what she does, but she is also one of the nicest people! She made the entire experience so enjoyable and comfortable. I showed her a few of my inspiration pictures, and she did an amazing job recreating the look I was going for while still making it work perfectly for my hair. She was also very thorough during the consultation and took the time to make sure she understood exactly what I wanted. I really appreciated how attentive and detailed she was throughout the entire process. I absolutely love how my hair turned out and couldn’t be happier! I highly recommend Tava to anyone looking for an amazing stylist who truly listens, knows what she’s doing, and makes you feel so comfortable!
