With a 4.2 rating from 21 reviews, the salon stands out for personalized attention and a welcoming atmosphere rather than a rushed, one-size-fits-all experience. For people searching for a hair salon in San Francisco that balances skill, comfort, and familiarity, Salon Macias has built a reputation as a dependable local option.
Many customer comments highlight Carlos as a stylist clients trust with both simple requests and more open-ended cuts. Reviewers describe being able to share their preferred length, then let him shape the style in a way that still feels flattering and easy to wear. One detail that comes up more than once is how well the cuts grow out, which matters for anyone trying to keep their style looking polished between visits. Clients also mention small touches that make appointments feel more relaxed, including a brief massage during the wash and, for some men, a complimentary trim a few weeks later.
Beyond haircut services, Salon Macias is also mentioned for threading through Usha, with reviews pointing to her responsiveness, careful communication, and sensitivity to past concerns. That kind of feedback suggests a salon environment where listening matters. While experiences can vary by service and provider, several customers specifically note that they felt welcomed from the moment they arrived. For locals in San Francisco looking for a salon that offers both hairstyling and threading in one address, this Union Street location can be a practical choice.
The atmosphere described by reviewers feels social, approachable, and easygoing. Friends refer friends, regulars return, and the salon seems especially well suited for clients who value a stylist relationship over a quick in-and-out appointment. Whether you want a haircut with shape and longevity, a stylist who takes time to understand what you want, or threading from someone who is attentive to comfort, Salon Macias offers services that fit everyday grooming needs in San Francisco, California.
Salon Macias is open Wednesday through Friday from 11:00 to 19:00 and Saturday through Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00, with the salon closed on Monday and Tuesday. That schedule works well for many weekday and weekend appointments, especially for Marina and Union Street area clients looking for a conveniently located hair salon in San Francisco, CA. If you appreciate friendly people, personalized care, and styles that wear well over time, Salon Macias is a spot worth keeping in mind.

Sign in to reviewI love Salon Macias!!! Carlos cuts my hair and does an amazing job. I have gone in and told him the length I want my hair to be and asked him to cut it however he wants - it always looks amazing!! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. While the cuts are expensive, they have grown out really nicely which makes it worth it!
Carlos is amazing! He gives really good haircuts, stops in the middle for a 5-min massage while you get your hair washed, and offers a complimentary trim 3 weeks later (for guys at least)! He is a great dude and nice to the core. Me and a bunch of buddies all have our hair cut by him now. Cannot recommend Carlos and Salon Macias highly enough!
I had the worse experience with facial threading when I travel to Hoi An (Vietnam) last year where I had facial threading for first time. My forehead filled with cysts & acne a day after. But coming to Usha is the best decision, not only she listened to my experience & concerns, she wanted to make me comfortable & make sure I am good through the process. She used sensitive skin cotton thread & cleaned my face before & after the threading. What a thoughtful gesture. Love how she kept reminding me not to pluck my brow to keep them in nice shape. Definitely will be back again.
Leaving this comment for the threading service. I did not work with any of the stylist in this salon. Whatever you do, don’t get a membership from them. Once you are a member, they keep making excuse to avoid scheduling your appointments. Anytime I called for an appointment Bikash forced me to go there during work hours. Having more customers now, Usha’s work quality has lowered dramatically as she only tries to get customers going as fast as possible. Multiple times, she left patches of hair. Every time I got my eyebrow done, she peeled the skin and left marks. When I raised these concerns with them and asked them to cancel my membership, Bikash’s answer was “yes cancel, we have so many members we don’t need you”. These people are not asking for your business and they don’t deserve it.
Upon reading the Yelp reviews, I decided to try Usha for her threading services. I messaged her on Yelp, and got a response very quickly. She has a chair in a salon, but there's a sign outside letting you know that's where she's located. You'll need to check in at the front desk, sign your name, and indicate what services you're getting. The woman at the front desk seated me and asked if I wanted anything to drink. I just needed water, so I'm not sure what else they offer. When it was my turn to get threaded, Usha was quick and effective in shaping my eyebrows. My eyebrows aren't symmetrical.. one is higher than the other, and an injury also left a slight bump. But she worked her magic and my brows look fantastic! She recommended that I grow them out as much as I can to make them look even as possible for the next time I get threaded. She also did my upper lip. The total came out to $25 (not including tip), which is affordable for me considering I used to pay that much for just an eyebrow wax alone. What I also liked about the way she threads is that I don't feel the tiny hairs all over my face. It's probably by the way the chair is angled. At another location, I have to lay down on a bed, and all the tiny hairs get rained upon my face. Not at Usha's. She does ask that you use your hands to keep the skin taut as she threads, so I recommend washing your hands first in the restroom located in the salon, especially if you use public transit. I recommend getting an appointment. By the time I was finished, there were 2 ladies already waiting and she only had about 15 minutes before she was done for the day. And one walk-in wasn't able to get in.
