Sconehenge Bakery & Cafe is a neighborhood breakfast restaurant in Berkeley, California, where morning and early-afternoon meals are served in a relaxed cafe setting. Located at 2787 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA 94705, the business is a convenient local stop for a sit-down breakfast, coffee, and baked scones. Its 4.5-star rating across 499 reviews provides useful context for diners searching for a well-regarded Berkeley breakfast option. It welcomes guests looking for an unhurried start to the day or a simple midday meal.
Scones are a central reason people visit, and customer feedback also highlights a varied breakfast selection. Reviews mention the Sc'affle, Scones Benedict, a breakfast sandwich, June's omelette, and a Denver omelet, giving prospective guests concrete examples of dishes they may encounter. Guests have also called out the homemade salsa as especially flavorful, with one reviewer noting that it complemented nearly every bite. These details make Sconehenge Bakery & Cafe a practical choice when the table wants more than one style of breakfast. Coffee and chai lattes are also noted by diners as natural companions to the meal.
The menu described in reviews reaches from pancakes and French toast to familiar diner-style plates and Mexican egg dishes. Chilaquiles have been mentioned by guests, alongside omelettes and egg-centered breakfasts. That mix creates an approachable, old-school breakfast feel rather than a narrowly focused menu. Because items and availability can change, diners with a specific dish in mind can confirm it when they arrive. The cafe's baked offerings remain an appealing complement to a savory plate or a coffee break. It lets a group pair sweeter morning choices with filling savory options without losing the cafe's casual character.
Service is frequently described as friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, including for groups that want to share a leisurely meal. One guest compared the atmosphere to an old diner, while another appreciated the easygoing experience shortly after opening. The setting suits friends meeting over breakfast, neighbors stopping in for coffee, and visitors seeking a straightforward meal in Berkeley. A review noted free black-coffee refills during its visit; this is a thoughtful reported experience rather than a standing promise. Guests also describe staff as kind, making the cafe comfortable for first-time visitors.
Sconehenge Bakery & Cafe is open Monday and Wednesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; it is closed Tuesday. These morning-focused hours make it particularly useful for breakfast plans and weekend brunch-style outings. Diners who prefer plant-based meals should note one review's observation that much of the menu is egg-forward and may have limited vegan suitability. For a welcoming Berkeley, CA breakfast restaurant with scones, coffee, and a broad mix of classic breakfast plates, it is worth considering.

Sign in to reviewWent here with a group of friends, four of us in total. We got the June’s omelet, a chai latte, and the Scones Bendit. The food was alright—reminded me of old diner vibes back in the day. The server was very kind, and they even had black coffee served non-stop without charging us, which was a nice touch. Overall, it was fine, but I probably wouldn’t go back; the food didn’t really stand out.
The scones and breakfast were delicious! Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about their offerings. We tried the Sc’affle, June’s omelette, and a breakfast sandwich. Their homemade salsa was very good and we put it on everything. I asked if they sold it so I could take some home! We got some additional scones and other goodies to go. Highly recommend!
We came in Friday 0pfor breakfast shortly after opening. We seated ourselves, as lots of places were available. Our server brought us a menu and took our oder for coffee. We spotted chilaquiles on a board behind the counter as I was choosing my order. We got a Denver omelet, chilaquiles, and a breakfast burrito with chorizo added (to go.) The Denver omelet was good, particularly with the house salsa. The chilaquiles were crisp, lots of sauce, and very good rice and beans. The house salsa added even more flavor but also a real bite. It was too good to leave off, though. I was too full to consider a scone. We did get one with ginger with the omelet. No regrets, lots of hot coffee before you knew you needed it. The very kindly took my bacon back and crisped it up, as I has forgotten to order it that way. It was quiet enough to make conversation easy. Will happily return.
Fantastic address for breakfast in Berkeley. Everything it should be. Super friendly, delicious food and very correct prices. Too bad we don't have it like this in Belgium. From pancakes over delicious French toast to traditional and Mexican egg dishes. Oh yes, and very delicious scones. Highly recommended.
We tried Sc'affle — the taste was average. The coffee was served in a glass water cup, which was a first for me :) The staff were friendly and attentive. However, since almost everything had eggs, it's not really suitable for vegans. I wish there were vegan options too — that would’ve made me happy :) 🍀Update: Since the menu didn’t indicate that the listed dishes could be prepared in a vegan-friendly way, I didn’t think of asking at the time and didn’t want to cause any inconvenience. I’ll certainly keep this in mind for future visits, and I truly hope to see even more vegan options on the menu. Thank you very much for your thoughtful response.
