SoSoBa Phoenix is a ramen restaurant at 214 W Roosevelt St in Phoenix, AZ 85003, serving ramen alongside creative fusion dishes. Customer experiences suggest a menu with more than one direction: visitors mention chicken katsu ramen and spicy ramen, as well as a tostada topped with kimchi and pulled pork. For dessert, one review calls out miso-glazed carrot cake finished with frosting and deep-fried carrot ribbons. These details make SoSoBa a downtown option for diners who want a bowl of ramen but may also be interested in unexpected combinations and a sweet finish. The restaurant has a 4.2-star rating from 1,408 reviews, reflecting a broad range of opinions rather than a single, uniform experience.

The atmosphere is described by some guests as chill, with self-seating and attentive service noted in a positive review. That diner appreciated frequent check-ins and water refills, especially while eating a spicy bowl. Another visitor found the restaurant busy on a late-night visit, even arriving about 45 minutes before closing. These accounts point to a casual place that can suit an informal meal with friends, a downtown dinner, or a ramen stop later in the evening. One reviewer also mentioned that the restaurant is walkable from a Japanese zen garden, which may be useful context when planning a visit in the area.

Ramen is the central draw, but the reviews indicate that guests may find dishes beyond familiar noodle bowls. The chicken katsu ramen is specifically mentioned, though feedback on it is mixed: some diners enjoyed the overall food, while others found particular dishes bland or felt that portions were smaller than expected. The fusion tostada with kimchi and pulled pork received a notably enthusiastic mention, as did the miso-glazed carrot cake. If you are choosing what to order, these guest comments offer a helpful sense of the range, but individual tastes and experiences vary. The menu details provided here do not establish that every dish is available at all times.

One customer review describes a happy hour from 5 to 6 p.m. with $9 ramen bowls, and another mentions the convenience of the downtown location near the highway. Because business hours and current offers are not confirmed in the available information, check directly with SoSoBa Phoenix before making plans around a particular time or promotion. Edible bland pre-made stuff diced and placed on warm broth. The noodles were decent. Servering size seems smaller than the norm. The smallest chicken katsu cutlet I ever seen and eaten! I could taste the unfreshness, like it was made hours ago, lacksidasically heated up, and served. The sauce on it was too sweet further making the dish unauthentic. Kids ramen bowl was pricey. I walked out spending $44 on one adult and one kids ramen. Service was inattentive, slow, and we were the only active table. Over all they were cordial.

Great spot with a chill vibe, happy hour 5-6pm $9 ramen bowls were a great deal and delicious. Self seating and we were attended to very frequently, multiple water refills without even asking which was perfect since I got the spicy. Right off the highway and walkable to the Japanese zen garden if you are visiting as well.

Absolutely delicious food with interesting fusion options! The tostada with kimchi and pulled pork was so delicious. The frosting and deep fried carrot ribbons on the miso glazed carrot cake even further elevated the experience! I only wish we had the stomach room to order more dishes! I was slightly disappointed to find there isn't soba on the menu. A cold dipping soba during this heat wave would have been divine.

Tried the chicken katzu ramen and personally didn't like it. Everything was super bland and it seriously lacked flavor. I'm not sure about this but I got the feeling that it was made up of frozen stuff and not fresh ingredients. A bit …

We were looking for late-night ramen in downtown Phoenix and ended up at Sosoba. Coming in about 45 minutes before closing, we figured the place would be pretty empty, but that definitely wasn't the case. Almost all the tables were full, which we took as a great sign that we picked the right spot. We ordered the katsu and mic drop ramens, and they came out pretty quickly. The ramen was decent; it is not the best I have ever had, but for being almost midnight, it definitely satisfied my craving. There was nothing specifically wrong with the food, and the chicken was cooked nicely, I have just had better. The best ramen I have had is at Mensho Ramen and Silver Lake Ramen, but sadly they were closed. The experience took a really weird turn, though. One of the busser started coughing and almost threw up before running to the bathroom. We sat near the bathroom and just heard him gagging and hurling into the toilet. I kind of felt bad for the guy, but it was very unpleasant for us while trying to eat. To make matters worse, we then saw him picking up the glass water bottles they provide by sticking his finger right into the top hole. I hope this was just a bad night for him, and I really hope he washed his hands very well and thoroughly washed those glasses afterward. If my other favorite places were open, I would quickly go to those instead, but if this was the only place open, I would not be upset. It is definitely decent and gets the job done. Overall, it is a solid late-night spot, minus the bizarre bathroom incident!
