After traveling all the way from North Carolina, walking into Southern Dough Baking Company was the warm welcome I truly needed. I had the pleasure of meeting Edgar (one of the partners/managers), who took the time to share the history of the place and the local area a fantastic touch that made me feel right at home. For dinner, I ordered the Cowboy Chicken Fried Steak served with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was absolutely outstanding. The mashed potatoes were incredible and gave me that nostalgic, "back home" comfort food feeling. To top it all off, a wonderful staff member named Brandon gave me a fast recommendation for dessert. In a heartbeat, he suggested the homemade apple pie with ice cream, and it was spectacular! Excellent food, incredible service, and great people. I highly recommend this spot to anyone passing through Katy!

The food is fresh and tasty, the options are plenty. The restaurant is always clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are great for the quality of the food and it’s easy to find something for everyone because it’s a diverse American style menu. They even have BlueBell ice cream. The only thing to be keenly aware of is their hours. There have been a couple times we’ve stopped in to grab some food and they’re only serving pie. And it was early evening on a weekend I think, so we had to make other plans. This isn’t a late evening or early night spot. It’s a lunch or proper supper place. Don’t skip dessert. Their case of beautiful pie choices will tempt you while you wait to order.

A friend suggest this place. I asked him to recommend a locally-owned, non-franchise restaurant. Thanks for the recommendation, brother Paul! We met some friends for early dinner. I had the avocado, green chili burger mainly because I like just about anything with green chili as an ingredient. The burger did not disappoint. The fries were also good and just crispy enough on the outside. My wife had the French Dip sandwich and ended up bringing home half of it. She had the zuchini fries and they were tasty and perfectly prepared. Friends had the fish and chips - 5stars, and another avocado, green chili burger. We followd it up with Chocolate cream pie, banana pudding pie and peach/almond pie (with a scoop of Blue Bell). We were all pleased with the food and service, and agreed the atmosphere was pleasant. Will stop by again when in the area.

Had an amazing experience at Southern Dough for the second time, and it definitely won’t be the last. The first visit was so good that I had to come back. This time I had the Chicken and Dumplings, plus Steak Fingers with French Fries and a Sweet Tea, and everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The food is truly awesome and has that comforting, homemade taste. The ambience is warm and inviting, with a cozy, home-style feel that makes you want to sit and stay awhile. The staff are friendly, attentive, and make you feel like family from the moment you walk in. If you’re looking for great Southern comfort food and a genuine homey atmosphere, Southern Dough is absolutely worth a visit.
