Tan Sang Tropical Fruit is a fruit and vegetable store in Portland, Oregon, at 332 SE 82nd Ave, Portland, OR 97216. It offers local shoppers a place to look for tropical and Southeast Asian produce that can be difficult to find at other markets around the city. Customers describe a compact shop with coolers along the sides and tables in the center, stocked with fruit, vegetables, and a selection of other food products. If you are curious about unfamiliar produce or planning a recipe around a particular ingredient, the shop’s distinctive selection makes it a useful stop to explore.
Seasonal fruit is a highlight. Customers have mentioned finding mangoes, mangosteen, dragon fruit, and soursop, though availability varies; one shopper was able to arrange a return visit when soursop arrived. Mangoes may need time to ripen at home, and one reviewer described theirs as sweet once fully ripe. The selection is a practical reason to check in when you are searching for a specific tropical fruit, discovering something new, or looking for ingredients for smoothies and other home cooking. Because produce changes with the season and sourcing, it is sensible to ask staff what is currently available rather than assume a particular fruit will be in stock.
The store carries more than fresh produce. Reviews also note a few vegetables and grocery items such as dried shrimp, duck eggs, frozen chicken, and root vegetables. These details suggest a small market where shoppers can browse for complementary ingredients alongside fruit, rather than a produce-only stop. The assortment described by customers is varied, and the selection can be especially helpful when a recipe calls for a specialty item that is not easy to locate nearby. Availability may differ from visit to visit, so asking about a product is a good way to find out whether it is on hand.
Visitors describe the staff as friendly and willing to answer questions about unfamiliar items. One customer appreciated being offered a taste of an unfamiliar fruit, while others mention receiving help choosing produce and being notified when requested soursop arrived. That personal assistance can make the store welcoming for first-time visitors as well as for shoppers who already know what they want. Reviews also recognize that specialty fruit may cost more, reflecting the challenge of sourcing and shipping products from farther away; shoppers can decide whether a particular item fits their needs and budget.
Tan Sang Tropical Fruit is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., making it convenient to plan a weekday or weekend visit. Its listed rating is 4.2 from 108 reviews. For Portland residents seeking seasonal tropical fruit, selected vegetables, or specialty grocery items, it offers a focused neighborhood shopping experience at its SE 82nd Avenue location. Visit with an open mind, ask what is ripe or newly available, and let the changing selection guide what you take home.

I came here looking for soursop fruit to make a smoothie and was told they would have some the next day at 5pm. They followed through and sent me a text letting me know the fruit arrived at 4pm. You pay a premium price, but it’s worth it to have access to fruits from foreign countries that are exclusive and difficult to find in this region. They also have jackfruit, passion fruit, star fruit and lychees and assortment of other tropical fruits. I highly recommend stopping in to see what’s in stock.
I went here for the first time and couldn't have had a better experience! They have an amazing variety of unique fruits that are very hard to find here in Portland, Oregon. I thought that the pricing was reasonable, given the challenge of sourcing and shipping the fruit and other foods. The employees were also friendly and helpful. They answered all the questions I asked while I was in the store. Even after I left, I called the because I had another question about an item I purchased, and they quickly answered the phone.
A tiny little shop with a heck of a lot of SE Asian fruit. I drove by and stopped on a whim. Inside were some coolers on the sides of the space and a series of tables in the center. There was a large array of fruits, a few veggies, some sundries like dried shrimp, duck eggs, frozen chicken, and root vegetables. But mostly fruit. I counted three kinds of durian, several different guavas, varieties of avocado I had never seen outside of Hawaii, two different jujubes, a number of mangoes which were completely new to me, and a fair bit more. Prices were fair. The staff were helpful. I will definitely be back.
Great selection of seasonal tropical fruits, when I visited there was an abundance of mangoes 🥭 , mangosteen, dragon fruit, 🍐, the cashier was friendly and will let you try a non familiar fruit if you want to taste it. Once fully ripen, the mangoes were sweet. Satisfied and will be back to support small business. …
Great shop! I highly recommend Tan Sang for produce (and other products) that you can't find in other local markets. The people working were kind and answered my questions in order to help me select items that I was unfamiliar with. We'll be back!
