One item customers have described is the pork floss milk bun. A reviewer found the bun very soft, with a creamy filling and a savory contrast from the pork floss, while noting that the floss tasted too salty for their preference. That mix of texture and sweet-savory flavor may appeal to people who enjoy a richer filled bun rather than a plain pastry. Reviews also mention egg tarts and fruit cake, giving visitors a few different kinds of baked goods to consider. The available selection can vary: one Saturday-afternoon visitor reported finding a decent range of pastries even while the shop was busy.

Top Bread may suit people who want a bakery stop with options for an individual snack or a cake intended for a celebration. Customer reviews mention buying a birthday cake and a whole fruit cake, but experiences with freshness have been mixed. Some reviewers reported stale cake, fruit that seemed old, or fruit cake that had developed mold and tasted sour after being stored at home for a day. These are serious concerns, so customers planning a special occasion may want to check the cake carefully at pickup and ask about its preparation and storage. The reviews do not establish how typical those experiences are, but they are relevant when deciding what to order.

The business has a 3.9-star rating from 219 reviews, reflecting a range of customer experiences rather than a uniformly positive picture. Other comments raise questions about product handling and the shop’s environment, while individual impressions and preferences differ. If you are visiting Top Bread in Boston, consider checking the items available that day and choosing based on what looks appealing and fresh. Its early opening and extended evening hours offer flexibility across the week, with later closing times on Fridays and Saturdays. For anyone searching for a Boston, MA bakery with pastries, filled buns, egg tarts, and cakes mentioned by customers, Top Bread is one local option to explore with freshness feedback in mind.

I'm quite curious about the relationship between the three bakeries in Chinatown (Corner/Top/Taiwan). Although their names seem to have nothing to do with each other, they share paper bags and some products. Are they sister shops run by the same team? Egg Tart蛋撻: Since there was no insulated box, it was cold, which is a shame compared to Corner Cafe. The egg and milk aromas were masked, but there was a slight eggy smell. Portuguese Egg Tart葡撻: Although it was also cold, I preferred the baking. It had a thin crust, and the filling was still smooth and delicate, with a richer egg, milk, and sweet flavor. Butter Bun奶香包: The best product, but I forgot to take a picture... It was called "Little Wave Bread微波麵包" when I was a kid in China, where it has disappeared for a long time. It was exactly the soft and moist texture I remembered, and the milk, butter, and salt flavors were even stronger.

Recently bought a birthday cake here. We just had it today and it was not fresh at all! I specifically asked whether it was recently baked and they told me of course it was freshly made. You can tell the fruit was old and the cake itself was stale.

There was a decent selection of pastries still available on a Saturday afternoon despite the number of customers. I tried the pork floss milk bun ($2.70). The bun was very soft, and the inside was deliciously creamy. The pork floss added a savory juxtaposition, but I found it too salty. I would get the milk bun by itself if they sell it without the pork floss.

I went in over the weekend and could not help but notice the faint smell of sewage as soon as you walked in. It wasn't overwhelming but it's definitely there - the fact that there is even a faint smell of it in a place that serves food to its customers is concerning. I also noticed in the orange takeaway bag they give you lists Cafe Corner and Taiwan Bakery - so this means the same owner owns both of those stores. I only decided to try this bakery because when I previously went to Cafe Corner after a winter storm, I noticed that the baked goods were hard to the touch - my suspicion was that those goods were from the previous day/2 days ago. Knowing all of this now, I'm staying away from these bakeries.
