Emerson and Mauricio are my go-to indy mechanics in San Francisco. They've do it all and always do it right the first time (unlike many other shops I've been to in the city). From routine or preventative maintenance, installing aftermarket parts, or diagnosing tricky issues, they are the most reliable mechanics I've been to. While they may not be the cheapest option, you definitely get what you pay for in terms of quality work and professionalism. They've worked on 2 of my cars and I've never had an issue after about a dozen visits. I especially appreciate that they are very communicative and friendly and that they are willing to do jobs involving aftermarket parts (which some shops won't do). They also give reasonable recommendations and don't try to upsell you on random services that aren't needed. You can tell they value creating a long-term relationship with their clients, rather than just trying to squeeze them for as much money as possible. Their shop is huge and it's always fun seeing what cool German cars they have when I drop off or pick up my car (lots of vintage Porsche 911's). Highly recommend!

Vanguard Motors is a dependable and friendly shop. Emerson and Mauricio have been my only mechanics for the past three years; they service my 2011 cayman. Labor and parts prices are fair and they always deliver within of their quote. Vanguard is also accommodating for a daily driver as they always turn my car around in a day, even for the major service intervals. Their exceptional quality of work has resulted in three trouble free years of daily commuting, weekend outings, and multi-day road trips. I have no hesitation recommending them to anyone in the market for a trustworthy shop.

Friendly, customer-driven service with an emphasis on doing it right the first time is what I have experienced at Vanguard. I appreciate their willingness to meet the service and repair needs for both my BMW and Porsche and work me into their schedule when I've encountered "emergency" issues. Needless to say I am a loyal and very happy customer.

I was having a really hard time finding anyone willing and competent to work on my beloved old Porsche 928 in a timely manner who didn’t to gouge me on price. Then I found Gary and Paula. WOW!!! Their prices are reasonable and the work has been refreshingly thorough, professional, and really transparent. I get to see what’s been done and told what still needs doing. No BS and no unnecessary repairs to pad the books. It doesn’t hurt that they’re really nice people as well.

Gary has been servicing my 1979 911 for over 30 years that included brakes, rotors, 3 clutches, fuel pump, and lowering the car. All the work was done professionally and with courtesy to me as a customer. I have not had to return the vehicle to have something redone due to has error. I feel if you bring your car to him for service you will not be disappointed. I highly recommended him.
