About

Vanilya is listed on FindALoco in Philadelphia, PA with address, website, hours, and map location. Common services and related keywords include Bakery.

Vanilya is a neighborhood bakery at 1611 Passyunk Ave in Philadelphia, PA, known especially for bagels. Customer feedback points to a clear favorite: bagels with a crisp outside and a fluffy, chewy center, with distinctive flavors that some guests enjoy even without a topping. The shop also offers schmears, pastries, and sandwiches, making it a useful stop for a simple bagel or a more filling breakfast. With a 4.6-star rating from 198 reviews, Vanilya has earned plenty of attention from people looking for a local bakery in Philadelphia, while individual experiences can naturally vary.

For many customers, the bagels are the main reason to visit. Reviews praise their texture and flavor, and mention that the schmears pair well with them. Some guests also enjoy the pastries and sandwiches, so there are options beyond a plain bagel. One reviewer noted that the amount of cream cheese on an order seemed lighter than on a previous visit, a reminder that portions and experiences may not always feel the same to every customer. If you have a particular preference for a spread or sandwich, it may be helpful to confirm your order at the counter.

The feedback about service is mixed. Several customers describe a warm, helpful team, including one food-tour group that appreciated assistance customizing an order for guests with dietary restrictions and arranging for items to be ready warm on arrival. Other reviews report less welcoming interactions, as well as an occasion when drip coffee was unavailable and no alternative drink was offered. Taken together, these comments suggest that the food, particularly the bagels, is a consistent draw, while hospitality and availability may depend on the visit. Guests with dietary needs or a specific drink in mind may want to ask about options before ordering.

Vanilya is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 1611 Passyunk Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19148. Its daytime schedule suits breakfast, a late-morning stop, or a casual lunch built around a bagel or sandwich. The shop may work well for visitors exploring the area, small groups, and customers who want pastries or bagels to take along; reviews also mention a group order accommodated for dietary restrictions. For the clearest experience, check what is available that day and confirm any order details when you arrive. If you are comparing Philadelphia bakeries, Vanilya stands out in customer feedback for its bagels, with pastries, schmears, and sandwiches adding variety.

woman behind counter (i’m guessing owner) was not welcoming at all. the food is pretty mid, but service definitely took it down a peg. They sold me a drip coffee, didn’t even have any and just handed me money back didn’t offer something else to drink, told me “it wasn’t worth it” to make more coffee. it was so strange, won’t be coming back. can’t stress enough complete lack of social etiquette. felt like a true liminal space.

The best bagels in Philly hands down, unique flavors with crispy outside with a fluffy an chewy inside. Great schmears, pastries and sandwiches too. But it’s really all about the bagels, you can even eat them plain which is incredible.

The owner should NOT be behind the counter because she will ruin her business. My family was trying to order this morning (no line, no wait) and she kept directing my girlfriend to order with the QR code because we had a dog (even though a different, friendly staff member told us she could directly take our order at the window in just a minute - she had just taken a guy with a stroller’s order and we were happily waiting our turn). Great.Owner shows up and the window is shut to us, order online. No worries, we will - if you’re busy you’re busy and we can make it happen. My girlfriend was trying, but couldn’t find the items we wanted and went inside to get help finishing the order. While inside, the owner waved her off because “the website is a continuous scroll, it’s there” and took OTHER CUSTOMERS ORDERS - she could easily just have taken ours or showed my girlfriend where the item was. Two pastries and two coffees? We’re trying to get out of your way, we’re also service workers - we get it. Was it because we were the only gay couple? Was it because I was standing outside with a dog and you’re not a fan of tiny dogs in green vests? She just kept yelling at us to order online and leave the shop. Defeated, we leave to get coffee somewhere else (girlfriend in tears) and the owners there guessed our bad experience was at Vanilya without us even dropping the name. Apparently the shitty reputation is spreading, and it’s all on the owner. We live two blocks away, so - a lost loyal customer here. Bye girl.

The sweetest team!! Bonnie is such a delightful person and was very welcoming of our food tour group. She went over and beyond to customize our order for some guests who have dietary restrictions and baked everything perfectly-timed so that it was warm and fresh for our arrival. Our group loved their scones and we'll definitely be back for more treats and their bagels.
