The menu highlights include pho, banh mi, fresh spring rolls, and garlic noodles. Reviewers especially praise the pho, with one calling it a favorite in the area, and mention the Spicy Shrimp Garlic Noodles as a satisfying choice. The tofu banh mi offers a vegetarian option, and a reviewer singled out its bread for its Saigon-style character. For something lighter, the lotus root salad has drawn praise for its fresh feel and nuoc mam sauce. The California garden spring roll, described as including avocado, is another dish that customers recommend. These varied options make Viet Shack worth considering for diners who want a choice between a warm noodle soup, a sandwich, fresh rolls, or a bright salad.

Viet Shack may suit solo diners, casual lunch meetups, and anyone looking for approachable Vietnamese dishes without a formal dining atmosphere. Reviews also note helpful, kind staff and a clean, open condiment cabinet with fresh chili oil. A water station with lemon refresher water is another small detail mentioned by a guest. Feedback is not identical across every dish: one diner liked the generous portion and value of a banh mi but felt its execution could be better, while another would have preferred shrimp with the skin removed. That kind of specific feedback can help set expectations; preferences about preparation vary, and guests can ask staff about a dish when they have questions.

Visited Vietshack while in Tempe. The atmosphere was casual and fast-casual in style, and the service was friendly and efficient. I really wanted to like this spot, especially as a fan of a well-balanced bánh mì. The sandwich was generous and good value, loaded with meat, but the execution didn’t quite come together. The vegetables were tucked toward the back of the bun, making it hard to enjoy that classic balance in each bite. The mayo was far too heavy and the meat leaned overly sweet, which threw off the overall flavor. It also could have used more jalapeños and cilantro to bring some freshness and contrast. The bread was crispy, which was nice, but it was much larger in size and shape than a traditional baguette, leaning more toward a big roll than that light, airy texture you’d expect. Overall, good value but missed the mark on balance and authenticity for me. Saluti.

Never heard of lotus root salad, and it is as delicious as it sounds. Light and fresh with nuoc mam sauce. Excellent service and clean, open condiment cabinet with fresh chili oil, and a water station with lemon refresher water

Had the Spicy Shrimp Garlic Noodles and fresh spring rolls. Very good! Only thing that wasn’t for me - skin left on the shrimp. Wish the skin was removed. But that may be the traditional way of doing it!

The tofu bánh mì was delicious! The standout was the bread, which is made to mimic the original Saigon-style bread. A great vegetarian option!

Best phó in the area!!! The owners and staff of this establishment are extremely kind and jovial people. Other than having the best phó around, they also have a specific garden spring roll that has avocado in it (I think they call it California) and it is DELICIOUS. Obviously the Vietnamese iced coffee here is perfect too. Love supporting this business and these wonderful humans. Their food is so nourishing and yummy!
