Vietnamese Sandwiches & Coffee is a neighborhood coffee shop in San Francisco, CA that offers a simple, local place to stop for Vietnamese drinks and comforting food. Located at 411 Ellis St in the Tenderloin area, it sits just a couple of blocks from Civic Center, making it a practical option for people exploring downtown, commuting through the area, or looking for a casual bite during the day. Open daily from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, this is the kind of spot people tend to remember for its straightforward menu, familiar routine, and the feeling of a lived-in neighborhood business rather than a polished chain cafe.

While the name highlights coffee and sandwiches, customers also mention a broader selection of Vietnamese comfort food. The banh mi is one of the clearest draws, with reviewers describing the sandwiches as worth the wait when the shop gets busy. Others point to the pho and noodle dishes as reliable choices, especially for anyone craving something warm and filling. Coffee is another reason people stop in, and several reviews pair the drinks with the sandwiches as the classic order. If you are searching for a Vietnamese coffee shop in San Francisco where you can grab a casual meal as well as a drink, Vietnamese Sandwiches & Coffee fits that need in a very direct, no-frills way.

The atmosphere appears informal and rooted in the neighborhood. One reviewer noted a room with regulars gathered around a table playing cards, which suggests a place that serves not only food and coffee, but also everyday community rhythms. That kind of setting will appeal to diners who appreciate businesses with personality and a local feel, rather than a highly curated cafe experience. At the same time, customer feedback is mixed, with a 3.9 rating across 20 reviews, so expectations should stay grounded: this is best approached as a modest local shop where the food matters most.

For visitors and locals alike, Vietnamese Sandwiches & Coffee may be especially suitable for a quick lunch, an easy weekday stop, or a low-key meal near Civic Center. Reviewers who enjoy it speak most positively about the taste of the sandwiches, the quality of the Vietnamese food, and the satisfying combination of coffee with a simple meal. If you are looking for a Vietnamese-owned coffee shop in San Francisco, California that offers banh mi, coffee, and other familiar dishes in an unpretentious setting, this spot is a practical option to keep in mind. As with many downtown locations, it also helps to stay aware of your surroundings in the neighborhood and plan your visit accordingly.

For some reason won't sell sandwich to white people. Three times I've been in and the moment I walk in the lady says " no sandwich" ??? Just a bunch of old men sitting around a table playing cards . Is this even a restaurant??

i. love. this. sandwich. shoppe! you smell the shop before you see it... ahh! i believe it's the smell of heaven! during busy times you might find a little line but do not be dissuaded from your sandwich, it will be worth it. and it's only a couple blocks away from Civic Center, so it's easy to find.

Great Vietnamese food, especially the pho or noodles. I always head here for breakfast on my first day in SFO. The neighbourhood is a little rough, so be on your toes to stay out of trouble. Quality of the food is good.
