Wonder Bakery is a longtime bakery in Los Angeles, CA that locals and returning visitors seek out for classic baked goods, Asian specialties, and a steady, everyday feel. Located at 943 N Broadway in New Chinatown, it sits in one of the city’s busiest cultural corridors, yet customers often note that it remains relatively easy to stop in without dealing with overwhelming crowds. That balance makes it a practical choice for people exploring the neighborhood, grabbing a quick snack, or picking up a box of favorites to bring home.

What stands out at Wonder Bakery is the variety. Reviews mention egg tarts, butterfly cookies, bao, taro bread, red bean mooncake, almond cookies, and green bean pie, pointing to a menu that blends familiar bakery staples with Asian baked treats many families grew up with. Several customers specifically praise the baos, with one reviewer saying their family has been coming here for more than 30 years and still returns for them. Others call out the bakery’s simple desserts and affordable pricing, which helps explain why it continues to be part of regular routines for so many people in Los Angeles.

The atmosphere at Wonder Bakery feels straightforward and unfussy, the kind of neighborhood bakery where the focus is on the case of pastries and the comfort of knowing what to expect. It can be a good stop for Chinatown visitors who want something casual, for families looking for traditional sweet and savory items, or for anyone craving a quick bite in downtown Los Angeles, California. Because some reviews mention that popular items may sell out later in the day, going earlier can be a smart move if you have your eye on favorites like egg tarts or walnut cookies.

Customer feedback also suggests a business that stays responsive. While not every item is every customer’s favorite, reviewers note improvements over time and appreciate friendly service, including staff remaking a drink when it did not come out as expected. That kind of interaction matters for neighborhood places that rely on repeat visits. With a 4-star rating from 121 reviews, Wonder Bakery has built a reputation as a dependable local stop for baked goods in Los Angeles, CA.

For people searching for a Vietnamese-owned or Asian bakery experience near Chinatown, Wonder Bakery offers a convenient address, accessible hours throughout the week, and a menu worth browsing in person. It is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, with extended hours until 21:00 on Friday and Saturday. When I was here in 2019, their egg tarts were on the bland side, but this last time a week ago, it was much better. Still a nice selection of baked goods, and despite being in a high traffic area, they don't get super packed. Those butterfly cookies are what I used to get at Chinatown no matter what bakery I was in, as long as I was in Chinatown as a kid, I just HAD to get these! Also, it's one of the rare places nowadays that actually serve 沙翁, but they put a lot of sugar compared to how it might be made "in the old country", which is fine, because I have a sweet tooth.

Been to multiple bakeries in Las Vegas, NV (since relocating from California), and I have to travel all the way back to LA to get the best Baos! My family has been coming here for over 30 years and they NEVER disappoint. We LOVE Wonder Bakery! The Baos are the best!

This was my first time getting a few items here. We got their taro bream, a red bean moon cake, an almond cookie and a green bean pie. All were go good. I wish the taro had more taro filling instead of just the center. It was so good, I devoured it. Their red moon cake has a rich Honey taste. Their almond cookies are made there. The green bean pie was definitely something out of my comfort zone, my goodness, it’s a great way to get in those vegetables. The flavor was green bean and honey, very unique. When we go to Chinatown next time, this will definitely be our new stop for pastry.

This is right in New Chinatown. A pretty standard bakery serving a variety of simple desserts and some Asian specialties. I came later in the afternoon so they were out of what I'm assuming are their more popular items such as the Egg Tart or Walnut Cookie. The pricing is very affordable for each item being a few bucks. I ended up getting the Mini Lotus Moon Cake and a Vietnamese Iced Coffee. The Mini Lotus Moon Cake was classic. Smooth interior that is similar to red bean paste, but is from lotus seeds instead. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee had the essence of a Vietnamese-style cafe, but had too much milk added for me that ended up watering it down. It still made for a good iced latte though. Overall, a decent place with straightforward desserts at an affordable price.

Ordered a mango boba. It didn’t have mango flavor most likely because they didn’t use enough mango. They were nice enough to make a new one for us.
