I want to express my sincere gratitude to Simon Huynh and Dr. Kim for their exceptional support. Simon's unwavering care has been remarkable. His persistent efforts to secure assistance from the Community Care Team, along with his frequent updates and guidance, have been outstanding. He really goes above and beyond to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. Dr. Kim has also been incredibly helpful with the CCT and any other requests I've had. While he can be direct and blunt, I find his approach refreshing and necessary. As a disabled veteran, I value results and clear communication over traditional sympathy. Dr. Kim understands that, and I truly appreciate his straightforwardness. Thank you team! 🤙

I've had mostly positive experiences & feelings around this clinic. I 1st discovered this clinic when I became unhoused in 2019 as a result of several disabilities & age getting the best of me, forcing me into lower & lower paying jobs until I could no longer afford to pay ever increasing rent prices. After becoming homeless, I faced a lot of red tape, exhausted budgets, & overworked, burned-out & jaded workers. It was demoralizing, depressing, & discouraging. Eventually, I discovered the Fremont VA Clinic, which offered a housing program for homeless Veterans, called the HUD-VASH program, thru' which I had an incredibly positive experience. Their program was set up with extensive help from a team of people who were there to make finding housing as easy & painless as possible. Weekly meetings helped Veterans connect & collaborate with each other in finding new homes. The staff offered feedback, encouragement, ideas, & additional resources. One staff member was basically a liaison for the Vets, who helped us make appointments with prospective landlords, talk to them on our behalf if needed, & even drove us around in our housing search. We also had case managers to assess our personal goals, successes/failures, while providing support & monitoring our mental well-being throughout. This program was well-designed & I believe had a lot of success in getting Veterans housed. A really BIG benefit of this program was that they were able to get housing vouchers from HACA, where one simply could not get one as a civilian (I'd tried for unsuccessfully for several years). Within a few weeks I was able to successfully get into housing & it was a relatively painless process. This was a 5-star experience! The VA does provide many valuable services, & my overall impression is that its previously bad reputation has been evolving into much better experiences & services. I've received good care from my assigned PCP, excellent chiropractic services, excellent mental health counseling/therapy, & terrific ongoing services through the HUD-VASH program. Mental health services are sometimes outsourced & this can be a hit or miss in terms of quality. I've had a really awful experience & a really good experience when those services were outsourced. Mental health care & chiropractic care however are limited to a few weeks per year, tho' exceptions can be made if needed. My healthcare is primarily through Kaiser, which has had certain benefits, but I feel the VA has done a much better job of meeting my needs. I've continued to find great amounts of help from my case mgr with other things in order to ensure my housing success. In addition, I've been able to get connected to other staff members who've been very helpful. A social worker has been key in helping me find several outside resources I've needed help with. The recreational therapist arranged to get Vets out once a month to local regional parks, which has been really fun. She's even met with me at other times to help me get out to do other things so I'm not housebound. I've also benefitted from having a Peer Support Specialist. And, I had a Physical Therapist come to my home, assess my needs, and made sure I received several items that help me remain independent: a ramp, grab bars, hospital bed, commode, and other self-care tools. And as a side note, I found the VA's Suicide Hotline far superior to that of Kaiser's. However, since the Trump Administration has cut back on this program I'm unsure if it's been able to maintain that level of quality. Unfortunately, with all the VA cuts affecting available services, number of personnel, discontinuance of sensitivity trainings, DEI threats, everyone having to fill out weekly reports to show what work they've done (to justify keeping their jobs), orders to report each other for things like DEI, the workplace has become more hostile & people are being fired or choosing to leave, affecting the quality of services the veterans are getting. Overall, I'd rate my experience with the Fremont VA Clinic as a 4.5!

There's. A clerk with a smart mouth and sharp attitude. Otherwise doctor is great. Can't stand that lady as she says she don't have to help you or answer phones if she don't want to. So why is VA paying her?
