Everyone is incredibly kind, and respectful, which makes such a difference when visiting a medical office. Scheduling appointments with Caroline was surprisingly easy, and she did a great job accommodating with my busy schedule. Even after when I needed an urgent follow up appointment Michelle was super helpful and made my appointment super fast. The front desk girls are also super kind and make the entire process from check-in to seeing the provider smooth and fast!! I especially want to recognize Francis from BH, who went above and beyond to ensure I felt heard, supported, and respected. Francis demonstrated compassion, patience, and deep expertise, creating a safe space where I felt comfortable discussing my concerns. The level of attentiveness and personalized care made a meaningful difference in my experience. My mom and dad are patients of Dr. Maryam here. Dr. Maryam is such a great PCP, but we experienced a lot of disorganization and miscommunication with the front office staff, to the point that my parents were considering changing their PCP. However, since Farin started working here a few months ago, everything has changed. She has been incredibly helpful and caring. She is patient, attentive, detail-oriented, and truly takes the time to resolve issues. She has brought much-needed organization and professionalism to the office!

I'm not sure what has happened to friends of family over the past few months, lately it seems like it is impossible to get a hold of a receptionist at all. You leave a message for them and they never call back. My prescription renewal is basically being held hostage by an automated voice message because I cannot communicate with a human. It's pretty clear that this clinic is extremely understaffed or has taken on too many patients.

I have been a patient at Friends of Family Health Center for several years, and overall my experience with the clinic itself has been acceptable. However, my experience with Dr. Rohani has been extremely disappointing and troubling. I trusted him with my care for four years, believing I was receiving proper treatment for my ongoing lower back and neck pain. Instead of improving, my conditions progressively worsened, and I did not receive the level of care or attention I expected from a primary provider. When I expressed my concerns, I was met with comments that were not only unhelpful, but also discouraging. Once, he suggested that “the health system in the U.S. does not want patients to get better because they cannot make money if you do,” which was very unsettling to hear as a patient seeking answers. He also made light of my health issues at times when I was in genuine need of support. Whenever I asked about treatment options or referrals, I was told that my insurance—Medi-Cal with CalOptima—would not approve certain referrals or that the process would take too long. I understand insurance limitations, but I strongly believe a provider should still attempt to advocate for their patient. Trying different specialist referrals, even if one is denied, can make a significant difference in the outcome, and I did not feel that effort was made on my behalf. In addition, I sought second opinions from other doctors and therapists at Friends of Family Health Center. When they tried to review my medical history, it became clear that many of my health concerns had never been documented by Dr. Rohani. Despite four years of visits, his after-visit summaries and clinical notes contained only a few words, which made it difficult for other providers to understand my medical history or provide appropriate care. In contrast, every other doctor and therapist I saw at the clinic created detailed and thorough records. This lack of documentation from Dr. Rohani significantly impacted the continuity and quality of my care. I do not wish to judge him personally, but based on my experience, I did not feel supported, taken seriously, or provided with appropriate guidance. As someone who was new to the U.S. healthcare system and relied heavily on my provider’s direction, this was deeply disappointing and has caused unnecessary delays in my care. I hope the clinic takes such concerns seriously, especially for patients who depend entirely on their provider’s guidance.
