Rising Star Optometry

We are beyond thrilled that we found Rising Star Optometry! We had visited 4 optometrists that offered vision therapy services prior, but none of them instilled our trust. We had to find the right doctor and get the right care and guidance, and we are so thankful that we did! We were able to do most of the sessions virtually, and it was highly effective! I had been skeptical, but I saw the changes with my own eyes and now I just wish there were more peer-reviewed research out there that folks could rely on and trust. We are forever grateful for the life-changing difference it has made for us!

I have been a patient of Rising Star Optometry for about a year. The approach, the caring and the consideration regarding my treatment is excellent. Appointments are timely, and I am informed of improvement as well as steps I may need to take to continue to progress. Exercises and a computerized program accompany the program to ensure progress. The program continues to give me support. My visual situation has been very challenging, and I am fortunate to have been referred to Rising Star Optometry by my eye doctor. Prior to being referred, I searched for well over a year for such a program.

Dr. Shumaker has made a HUGE, positive impact on my life. After adult Strabismus surgery I had double vision and his therapy has corrected that for me over time. My continued therapy with him helps me keep my eyes healthy and from seeing double. He is incredibly knowledgeable and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my eye care. I HIGHLY recommend this practice. His office staff (vison therapists/reception and practice managers) are also wonderful and really on top of things.

As a serious amateur watchmaker, I spend hours using my microscope to work on tiny parts smaller than a grain of sand. To really enjoy my passion, I need to be able to see optimally. Excellent hand-eye coordination and being able to notice (and see) the smallest details are important to bringing a broken watch back to life. Through my Kaiser insurance I was able to try their optometry services, and unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. They refused to test my vision beyond 20/20 even though my eyes are 20/12. I explained to them that reading the 20/15 and 20/12 charts is necessary in my case, or they wouldn’t be able to detect any adverse changes until they became quite advanced. Nevertheless they refused. That was the first and last time I ever used Kaiser for vision! I decided that I wanted the highest quality service. I wanted to understand any potential problems on the horizon, and if there were any I wanted to deal with them early. I really needed a topnotch optometrist. Luckily for me, I found Dr. Shumaker and Rising Star! Their focus on sports medicine, concussion recovery, and other specialty areas gave me confidence that they are especially skilled. And after becoming a patient I learned that they absolutely are. Together, Dr. Shumaker and I reviewed detailed photos of my retinas, and I learned that I have freckles on the inside of my eyes. Who would have thought that’s possible? Certainly not me! We’re monitoring my retina's freckles on a regular basis to make sure they’re not growing in size or changing in an adverse way. And Dr. Shumaker zeroed in my prescription to an extent I never thought possible. He demonstrated various lens options that were optimized for various distances, including infinity by measuring while looking out the window. No eye doctor I’ve ever visited has done that! There were subtle differences in focus, and we discussed tradeoffs and how to choose the best set of lenses for different uses. We even discussed how diet can have an effect on vision. That’s what I call quality service! I’m incredibly happy with Dr. Shumaker and Rising Star, and I recommend them enthusiastically. If you’re looking for an optometrist who's absolutely topnotch, this is your spot.
