Umai Mi

$25.93 for a "crispy rice salad" appetizer and a drink. This wasn't worth more than $10. This is a salad with a couple pieces of lettuce with crispy rice on top with a couple herbs and seasoning. It has no sauce or anything and is inadequate both texturally and flavor wise. It's like 2 cups of dry crispy rice with nothing on it. I asked if there was something missing and the offered me soy sauce. On the plus side, everyone was friendly. The food court has food court vibes, communal atmosphere. If you come in here looking for casual food instead of a fancy restaurant in the Pearl, it does have that, but don't don't expect a lot of bang for your buck. It's mediocre at best with Pearl prices.

I have frequented Jason Dady eateries for years. I had high hopes for his Pearl complex spot Umai Mi... Unfortunately, the meal was a letdown from start to finish. For the price, the quality and execution simply aren’t there. ​The Banh Mi: Overpriced & Under-Seasoned: ​The biggest disappointment of the lunch was the Banh Mi. At $20, I expected a premium sandwich packed with standard, vibrant, bold Vietnamese flavors. Instead, what arrived was poorly seasoned, over cooked, and flat. There was no punch from the marinade, no brightness from the vegetables, and nothing to justify that kind of price tag. ​The Sweet Fire Chicken: ​Things didn't get better with the Sweet Fire Chicken. From the moment it was handed over, it looked uninspired, and the taste confirmed my first impression: it both looked and tasted exactly like a microwaveable meal. The texture was lackluster, and the sauce had that distinct, overly processed sweetness you expect from a frozen aisle meal, not a fresh food stall dish. ​The Verdict ​Between the bland, $20 Banh Mi and a chicken dish that felt like it was zapped in a microwave, Umai Mi misses the mark on both flavor and value. Save your money. There are a myriad of other options in the area. Ming's on Elvira comes to mind, and is less than a mile from The Pearl.

We ordered the deviled eggs appetizer, the red curry with crispy noodles and the chicken Bahnmi. Everything was delicious! The eggs were a little heavy on the mayo but still good. We asked for spice on both meals however it was mildly spicy, not crazy hot. There was no line to order and we only waited about 15-20 min for our order. The staff was friendly! Overall great!

Didnt like the flavor very much. When i went was not rice. The noodles were not good and the curry with the chicken neither. I ask the lady if the food was spicy and she told me it wasnt, but it was.

I got curry, veggie rolls and a milk tea boba. I don’t let reviews influence my decision and I’m glad I didn’t. Our cashier Aurora was a sweetheart while I was indecisive, but her knowledge on the menu helped me get the fan favorites. The manager (I think his name is Nick) made sure the tray was stocked with utensils and sauces without me having to ask. Fusion food will never be authentic but I am a fan of a Chef’s special touch when it comes to foods outside of their norm. Will be back to try their rice bowls when I’m on that side of town.
