For travelers moving through the airport, especially the international departures and G gates area mentioned by customers, it offers a practical place to get a warm Asian meal before a flight or during a layover. The restaurant carries a 3.4 rating from 188 reviews, which reflects a mix of appreciation for flavor and convenience along with common airport-dining concerns about price.
The menu is especially helpful for guests who want something more substantial than typical plane snacks. Customer comments point to the curry chicken bowl as a standout choice, with one diner calling it unexpectedly excellent and better than eating on the plane. Vegan diners also note that the Garden Box is clearly labeled, warm, hearty, and flavorful. Reviews describe the portions as generous enough that some guests could not finish everything in one sitting, which matters when you need a satisfying meal on a tight travel schedule.
Another reason Asian Box stands out in San Francisco, CA airport dining is its attention to dietary needs. Reviewers describe the restaurant as gluten-free, with every menu item presented as gluten-free, including the chocolate chip cookies. That makes it a reassuring stop for travelers who usually have to scan menus carefully or settle for something less filling. The vegan option is also visible at the window and on the menu, which helps tired passengers make a quick decision without having to ask too many questions.
The atmosphere is shaped by its location: quick-service, travel-focused, and designed for people who may be balancing luggage, boarding times, and family needs. Some customers mention that the spot is quieter because it is near the end of the G gates, making it a useful pause before boarding. It is a good fit for solo travelers, families looking for rice or bowl-style meals, vegan or gluten-free guests, and anyone who prefers a hot, composed dish over cold grab-and-go food.
Like many airport restaurants, pricing is part of the experience, and several reviewers feel the meals are expensive compared with options outside or in other terminals. Still, many guests return to Asian Box because the food can be comforting, clearly labeled, and easy to eat before a flight. With daily hours starting at 7:30 a.m. and usually running until 11:00 p.m., this Vietnamese restaurant in San Francisco, CA serves breakfast-time travelers, late departures, and long-layover diners who want something warm, flavorful, and straightforward.

Sign in to reviewUnexpectedly excellent. I loved their curry chicken bowl. It’s an airport and you’re a captive audience, so it’s a rip-off. But it’s a good meal, certainly better than what you’d be getting on the plane — in that sense, it’s plenty of value.
This is one of the only options in the intl. departures terminal (G). even for an airport, the prices here are absurd. i attached a picture of what I paid $23 for. if you're fine with walking, the domestic terminal can land you much more food for the same price, or this amount for much cheaper lol The service was good though! I picked "no nuts" on the ordering kiosk but then picked an item where the nuts couldn't be removed and they double checked with me first to make sure I wasn't allergic. they dont have much seating, but the walkway has a lot of seating, and you can just take your food somewhere else too.
Imagine this, being tiered and hungry on a long layover and looking for a Vega option only to stumble upon warm hearty flavourful meal that just hits the spot. Yes it was the only vegan option but it was there and clearly labelled and advertised on the menu and at the front of the window. Very thoughtful. The garden box had extra firm tofu cubes, pickles, shallots, broccoli, bean sprouts, and a delicious Vietnamese curry soaked rise. It was filling and fulfilling.
Gluten-free restaurant with delicious Asian cuisine. Every time I have a layover that allows it, I’ve sought this restaurant out. And every single item on the menu is gluten-free. That includes the decadent chocolate chip cookies. The location is pretty quiet, too. It’s near the end of the G gates, which already feel separate from the rest of the airport. Make sure to allow extra time for the walk. But the service is quick and friendly. Definitely the best gluten free option at SFO.
I am always happy to find vegan options at the airport, but delicious meals are even better. I got the Garden Box with no changes, and I loved it. My only complaint is that it was so much food that I couldn't eat it in one meal, and I didn't have enough free hands to carry the leftovers on the plane. Also, it did take a while to get my food because they had to restock one of the veggies. It wasn't a problem for me because my layover was 2 1/2 hours, but if I was in a hurry I might have had to ask them to leave it out.
