My new favorite!!! They have GF and DF desserts!!! I LOVE PANDAN!!! I got a pandan waffle and the texture was amazing reminded me of a mochi waffle. Their Vietnamese Iced Coffee was also stellar. Highly recommend and this place is going straight to my favorites list.
My partner and I are huge fans of Berlu, both of their bakery options and their Thursday night market menu. Berlu serves Vietnamese goodies with an elevated twist. The food they serve also frequently happens to be gluten free and dairy free. It has been such a fun experience to share cultural flavors with my partner while he has been navigating various food allergies. Chef Vince frequently changes up his menu to bring new options to guests. We always find ourselves enjoying our meals here. Their pride and commitment to serving good food is obvious. P.S., Vince if you’re reading this, please please please bring back the Banana Bánh Bò Nướng!
I’ve been going since this was a pop up. With scaling up, they have kept the same consistency. I appreciate that this is a clean, somewhat fusion, of bakery flavors. From the avocado toast to the noodle soup, I think the chef is trying to create something that uniquely reflects him and what the market he serves wants to eat. I enjoy this bakery and I hope to see it continue its success!
Omg. I’ve died. The things we got were DIVINE. Literally want one of everything next time. …
Berlu Bakery was a definite highlight for us. We absolutely loved it. We ordered the One of Everything so we could try the whole pastry lineup and split everything between us. Every single pastry was excellent. They were some of the best pastries I’ve had, and what really stood out to me was how balanced everything was. Nothing was overly sweet, and each pastry had its own unique flavor and personality. Our favorite was the Cardamom/Passion Fruit Crème Brûlée Tart, and the brûléed sugar on top was honestly one of the things that impressed me most. It had that perfect crackly brûlée crunch, but the sugar layer was so delicate that it broke apart easily with every bite. Instead of getting one big piece of hard caramel, you got little bits of that caramelized crunch throughout the whole tart. If you’ve had crème brûlée before, you know the sugar layer is usually much thicker and harder, so this felt really thoughtful and special. After that, we couldn’t agree on a favorite because everything else was so good. We also got the Kẹo Mè Xửng Huế Latte, and it was perfect. It had such a lovely sesame flavor, and once again, it wasn’t overly sweet. My friend got the Vietnamese coffee, the Cà Phê Sữa Đá, which was much richer than mine but also incredibly good. I really loved that the pastries and drinks at Berlu felt thoughtful and distinctive without trying too hard. There were so many interesting flavors, but everything was still balanced and genuinely delicious. If you’re looking for a special bakery in Portland, Berlu Bakery is absolutely worth a stop. Get the One of Everything and plan to share. You’ll want to try all of it.
