DragonEats is a well-known Vietnamese restaurant in San Francisco, CA, serving a focused menu of banh mi and fast Vietnamese takeout in the SoMa area. Located at 555 Folsom St, DragonEats has built a strong local reputation with a 4.6 rating from 430 reviews, and many customers return for the combination of flavorful food, quick service, and reasonable prices. For people working nearby, exploring downtown, or looking for a reliable weekday lunch spot, this is the kind of place that keeps things simple and consistent.

What stands out most at DragonEats is its banh mi. Reviewers regularly mention the duck banh mi for its balanced texture and flavor, with moist duck, well-structured bread, and none of the sogginess that can ruin a sandwich. The 5 spice chicken is another notable option, though some guests note that it can be very spicy, so it may be best for those who enjoy heat. Customers also appreciate that the menu includes a veggie or vegan option, and one reviewer specifically called the vegan banh mi the best they had ever tried. That flexibility makes DragonEats appealing to a wide range of diners looking for Vietnamese sandwiches in San Francisco.

The experience here is straightforward: this is primarily a takeout-focused restaurant rather than a sit-down dining space. Even during busy weekday lunch hours, reviews describe the service as impressively fast, with staff who are friendly and efficient. That speed matters in a business district like San Francisco, where many customers need something dependable during a short break. The menu may be smaller than at a full-service restaurant, but that narrower focus seems to support the kitchen’s consistency and pace.

For locals searching for a Vietnamese restaurant near Folsom Street, DragonEats fits especially well for office workers, commuters, and anyone who values quality without spending too much. Guests often describe the pricing as fair for the area, especially compared with nearby alternatives. The restaurant’s weekday-only schedule, Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 16:30, also makes it a natural stop for lunch rather than dinner or weekend plans.

If you are looking for a trusted Vietnamese restaurant in San Francisco, CA with strong neighborhood support, DragonEats offers a clear identity: quick takeout, satisfying banh mi, vegan-friendly customization, and service that respects your time. Whether you are curious about the duck banh mi, want a fast midday meal, or need an easy lunch option in SoMa, DragonEats is a practical and popular choice that reflects what many people want from a local Vietnamese spot: good food, fair prices, and dependable execution.

I was so glad I decided to order the Duck Bahn Mi because this sandwich did not disappoint. I was worried it would be too fatty or too dry which can happen with Duck. This sandwich was excellent. Moist Duck and great flavor, without the sandwich being too wet. I HATE mushy bread and that was my second fear with having this delivered to my office. The sandwich arrived perfect. No mushy bread no problems. It was excellent, I wish I had another right now while I type this. Please everyone try the duck!

Perpetually fantastic. Food is excellent, prices are super reasonable. The folks that work there are very nice & they are so fast. This place is awesome. Idk why a similar chain would open down the block for double the cost & half the quality, but come to dragon eats.

To start, this is only a takeout place. No sitting area here, although I saw chairs hanging upside down. Went on a weekday around 1 and there were 5 people before me waiting for their orders. The service was very fast. The menu is small with one veggie/vegan option and 5-6 meat options. Similar options available for sandwiches, salads and bowls. I ordered Teriyaki Tofu Vegan Banh Mi. This was the only option in any variety. Sandwich was good. Tofu was juicy but with hints of oilyness. Had mixed feelings while eating it. Veggies were cruncy inside but was missing some kind of sauce in it. Overall, a good sandwich and can be tried once.

They recommended the 5 spices chicken. I didn’t expect it to be so unbelievably spicy without a warning. It was soooooo spicy, I couldn’t eat it at all. I brought it home, opened it up and found a full chopped up pepper with seeds and everything inside. The bread was nice and crispy, but there wasn’t enough ingredients so I had to take off the top and some of the sides, as didn’t want to just bite into dry bread.

Visited on Christmas Eve and had the BEST vegan banh mi of my life! I love that I could just order my food "made vegan" and they know how to adjust the sandwich accordingly. It came out very fast (but keep in mind no one was there because of the holiday) plus I was amazed at the price. High quality and great value, especially considering the sandwiches weren't small. Takeout only but the LinkedIn Lobby/Equator coffee shop is nearby and perfect spot for eating. Will absolutely be back!
