Many reviews also suggest that service can shape the experience here. Some diners highlight warm hospitality and personal recommendations, especially when the team helps guide the table toward dishes based on individual tastes. Others mention that service may vary during busy times, which is useful to keep in mind when planning a visit. Even with that mixed feedback, the overall impression remains positive because the food leaves a strong mark and gives people specific dishes to come back for.

For locals and visitors searching for a Chinese Restaurant in San Francisco, CA with a contemporary setting and shareable plates, Fang is an easy place to keep on the list. Very good food with interesting variations on familiar dishes. The hot and sour soup was unique and enjoyable. It is not the thick wood ear mushroom and dark broth variation. It's more like a vegetable and egg drop soup. Definitely preferred over the more common version by my partner. The steamed shrimp dumplings are visually stunning and delicious. The vegetable dumplings were incredibly rich and flavorful. Everyone in our party enjoyed the pan fried wantans. The steamed buns were fluffy and composed (surprisingly) taco style with moist and seasoned chicken breast, and pickled diakon and carrot. The Fang's crispy chillie honey short ribs melt in your mouth, definitely recommend. The steamed fish was served with ginger, spinach, and a very mild chili oil. They do make a house blend samba oelic style chilli paste that is hot and steals the show on flavor. The sesame chicken was crispy and served with sweet potatoes. Generally good flavor but it would have benefited from some sour to balance the sweetness.

Went with a group of friends to Fang’s recently. It’s family style, so we ordered a ton of items and shared. The standouts were the beef steamed potstickers and the crispy short ribs. It’s a really great place to go for group dinners. Service could be a little better but overall worth checking out.

I had an amazing dining experience at Fang. The restaurant has a super modern and trendy atmosphere that really stands out, while still serving incredible Chinese cuisine. The food was absolutely delicious. Honestly, it was the best Chinese food I’ve had in San Francisco. Everything we tried was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. What really made the experience special was the service. The gentleman who took our order suggested that we trust him and allow him to choose dishes for us, and we trusted him. Every single dish he selected was outstanding and ended up being a perfect mix of flavors. The service throughout the night was excellent and the staff were attentive and welcoming. The location is also great and makes for a really fun dinner spot if you’re in the area. Highly recommend if you’re looking for amazing Chinese food in San Francisco.

I got Mapo Tofu and asked for a little extra spicy. Apparently that means to them to dump a bucket of sichuan peppercorn, that didn't make it spicy just kinda numbing with that acid after taste when to much is used. I thought it odd that it didn't include white rice so that was an upcharge. The egg rolls were okay but it was more of a thick spring roll because of the smooth outer shell, also I thought it was odd that they cut them up and poured honey mustard I just assumed that the sauce would be on the side. Flavor of the egg rolls was fine overall. The one ding is I sat at the small table at the top of the stairs and after a bit I was getting a wet gym sock smell that just wouldn't go away which added to the food which could have thrown my taste buds off I'm not sure.

House of Nanking is amazing, and when we walked into Fang today for lunch and had the legend Peter Fang greet us and get us going, I knew it would be a good meal. I knew it would be pricy, but he actually talked with us and offered to put together some options based on our tastes that he thought would resonate with us. Did they ever. Now for 2 of us, it was $116, but we got 5 dishes and had to bring about half of it home, so honestly, if we're talking apples to apples value for meals around the city, this wasn't out of line at all. You can easily pay $100+ for 2 people to have a meal that isn't nearly as good (and probably not nearly as much food). The dumplings and beef wonton were incredible, but the short ribs stole the show. The place isn't large, but it's set up to make smart use of space so several tables can be filled at once. It's rare I walk away from a meal with no notes, but truly, I can't begin to adequately explain how good our lunch was. There is a lot of food Chinese food in SF, but outside of House of Nanking, I don't know if I have had anything to rival what we had at Fang.
