Sign in to reviewFirebrand Bread was such a wonderful surprise! We stopped in for brunch and were immediately impressed by the warm, welcoming atmosphere. The space is bright and airy, with lots of natural light, and there is plenty of comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, making it a great place to relax. Everything we tried was delicious. The pastries were fresh and flaky, the bread was outstanding, and the matcha was excellent. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. Another bonus is the convenience-there’s plenty of free street parking nearby, and the restroom was spotless. My only wish is that they offered more gluten-free options. This is definitely a place I’ll be coming back to. Just to be clear, this is not a sponsored review-I paid for everything myself and simply wanted to share a genuinely great experience. Highly recommended!
Outdoor seating on picnic tables allows us to bring our dogs. Can get chilly and windy on certain days. Be prepared with a jacket. Great atmosphere. Tasty burgers although we didn't have any this time.
We stumbled upon this place as we were exploring Alameda and we are so happy we did! We tried their tuna melt, ham and cheese croissant, matcha croissant, and vanilla bombolone. Everything was super delicious and fresh! My favorite was the matcha croissant. It was flaky and had a sweet matcha filling. They had indoor and outdoor seating and the service was quick. Everyone was very nice and helpful. We will be back!
Tucked away in a striking, massive industrial hangar on the former Alameda Naval Base, the physical space here is genuinely impressive—a nice, interesting environment to relax and enjoy your treats. Logistics are seamless with highly accessible mid-morning parking, and the counter service is consistently efficient, friendly, and welcoming. A notable operational friction point lies in the terminal packaging protocol. While staff packages each pastry individually, stacking the entire payload vertically inside a single larger paper bag places excessive weight on the delicate laminated doughs below. This lack of structural protection resulted in noticeable compression damage to both croissants during transit. Passion Fruit Bomboloni The Exterior: Absolutely immaculate. The yeast-dough envelope features a flawlessly fried exterior crust that instantly channels the pillowy, sugar-dusted profile of traditional Hawaiian malasadas. The Filling: Inside, the execution is stellar. The crumb matrix is fully populated by a generous payload of vibrant, perfectly balanced passion fruit curd. This item alone justifies a return deployment. Classic Butter Croissant The Crust: The outer shell registers a clean, golden-brown color index with a pleasant, subtle initial crunch. The Crumb: While the flavor yields a clean, highly satisfying pure butter taste, the inner lamination lacks optimal brittleness. The shatter index is a bit too muted; it needs a more aggressive oven spring to achieve that elite, flaky fragmentation. Matcha Croissant The Crust: Visually striking but mechanically compromised. The green bi-color glaze layer is excessively stiff and hard—by far the most difficult pastry to cleanly cut in half that I've encountered yet. The Crumb: Under the pressure of a knife, the hard topping causes the entire middle to collapse into a compressed layer. While the matcha flavor itself is quite good, the clashing textures—gummy internal compression against an unyielding crust—make it tough to recommend. Blueberry Kouign-Amann The Crust: The caramelized sugar glaze delivers a decent, satisfying crunch along the bottom base. The Crumb: The berry expression and laminated sugars yield pretty good flavors overall. It is a highly respectable execution, but it doesn't quite cross the threshold into greatness—there are simply better bakery options for this specific pastry archetype across the local Bay Area network. Goat Cheese Pretzel The Exterior: Downright awful and completely inedible. The heavily blistered, charred skin misses the mark of a proper alkaline bath or lye-dipped pretzel. It features zero traditional snap, resulting in a completely soft, leathery, and gummy exterior texture. The Filling: A massive thermal mismatch. The coarse, poorly proofed dough surrounds an isolated wedge of goat cheese. Instead of melting into a smooth, savory core, the intense oven heat stripped all moisture from the filling, leaving it completely dry, crumbly, and chalky. Ultimately, this stop highlights the wide variance that can occur between a bakery’s high-volume wholesale production and its daily retail execution. While the artisan bread line looks exceptionally well-calibrated and the yeast-dough program hits a phenomenal high with the standout passion fruit bomboloni, the laminated pastries struggle under heavy toppings, and the savory program experiences critical execution failures. For the optimal experience, bypass the complex pastries and the savory pretzels entirely. Deploy a highly targeted strategy: pull a baseline sourdough loaf for your home pantry, grab a box of the exceptional, malasada-style filled doughnuts to enjoy in the unique hangar space, and ensure you request a flat pastry box at check-out to safeguard your items from their vertical bag-packing system. It is an undeniably cool destination spot to relax, but a highly selective ordering protocol is required to yield maximum culinary utility.
Yummy drinks, good atmosphere and chill staff. Went here to work with friends and ended up staying most of the day! Plenty of seating, some wall outlets, and good WiFi Would recommend trying some of their yummy pastries too :)
