Reviewers consistently mention how kind the staff are, and that hospitality helps define the restaurant as much as the menu does. The space is often described as tight but fun, which gives it an intimate, lively feel rather than a large, anonymous dining room. Sign in to reviewGlad we found this place - the food was delicious, staff were all very kind and the space was tight but fun. A little hidden gem and worth visiting (if you have time to wait). They add a service charge and don’t accept tip (there was a sign on the door). I don’t remember if it was 15% or around that number. Didn’t mind it at all and better than doing math on the fly. The final bill didn’t even have a line for additional tip. Overall, I thought the pricing was fair given the food quality, service and atmosphere. Would come back again! We went on a Saturday night and didn’t realize how popular the place was. Arrived around 5pm and got on the wait list using Yelp. Was 22nd in line. It took about 2 hours to get seated… and there were probably a dozen other groups behind us. The owner had to start turning people away by the time we got seated around 7:30pm. Despite the heavy stream of customers, we didn’t feel rushed or have any issues with our orders. The servers were all patient and kind. They noticed when our drinks were about to get dry and came by to take finished plates away throughout the meal. They have a 90 min seating limit but they didn’t make us feel rushed at all. The food was different from other Japanese restaurants we have been too but still familiar and comforting. Would definitely come back to try other things on their menu.
Luckily for us, we had our friends arrive there before 4 pm for 4:30 pm opening and we’re ready to put us in the list. By the time we arrived, our group (6 people) was the third in line. Once they started seating, our group was called promptly. Since there isn’t a table (space) to accommodate us altogether, we had a table of four, plus two seats at the counter. We ordered our drinks first and food, and we were served promptly. My friend follows Mayumi san who was available to chat with us. The dishes we ordered were carefully prepared and tasted good. I would recommend to get there early on; otherwise, you probably wouldn’t be able to get in. There is a plenty of parking spot available.
I had the pork soba and my wife had the seafood ramen. Both were delicious. Our first time having Okinawan food but definitely won't be the last.
My husband and I went to this restaurant the other day! I found out about this restaurant through the owner's Instagram account! As a Japanese person, I wanted to eat Okinawan food at a restaurant run by Japanese people! Everything we ordered was delicious, and the Okinawa soba was the best! My husband raved that it was the best noodle dish he'd had in California! The Okinawa soba came with a large pork rib, and the seasoning on the rib had a very nostalgic taste! It reminded me of my trip to Okinawa! With the recent rise in prices, we don't eat out very often, but my husband and I have already talked about wanting to go back to this restaurant!!! We went on a Friday weekend, and we made a reservation by phone beforehand. Even though the restaurant was fully booked when I called to make a reservation, they asked if a small table would be alright and made a table for us. I recommend making a reservation in advance. It's such a busy restaurant that customers kept coming in one after another once we were seated. After eating the food, I thought, "No wonder so many customers come here."
Everything that we ate this day was ALL SOOOOO GOOD! I can't wait to go back and try the other dishes on their menu. Literally, every single dish was good 👌
