La Boulangerie is a bakery and cafe at 4600 Magazine St in New Orleans, Louisiana, where French-style pastries and cafe dishes bring locals and visitors together. Customer reviews describe it as a place where people genuinely stop in and spend time, rather than simply picking up a pastry and leaving. Its location in the Garden District puts it among the neighborhood’s shops and walkable streets, making it a natural pause during a local outing. With a 4.6-star rating from 1,964 reviews, La Boulangerie has earned a strong reputation among people looking for a French bakery in New Orleans.
The pastry case is one of the main attractions. Reviewers mention a generous-looking selection and, in particular, several kinds of flaky croissants. Baguettes and croissants are signature reasons customers recommend a visit, while the breakfast sandwich served on a croissant stands out as a memorable savory choice. For a more substantial cafe order, guests call out “L’Atlantique” and “Le Parisien,” with brown mustard suggested alongside the latter. These named options give diners a few specific favorites to look for while leaving room to explore the display and try something new.
Coffee makes La Boulangerie an easy stop for breakfast or a relaxed cafe visit, and chocolate cake is a favorite way to finish a meal. Customers describe the food as carefully put together, with flavors and elements that feel considered rather than excessive. Some visitors return on consecutive days to sample more of the menu, a useful sign for anyone who wants a bakery with options beyond a single pastry. Whether you are choosing a baguette to take away, sitting down for a croissant sandwich, or pairing coffee with a sweet, the menu offers several ways to make the visit your own.
Inside, reviewers describe a spacious dining room with many tables, quick service, and a lively hum of activity. That energy can be part of the appeal for people who enjoy a busy neighborhood cafe, though it is worth knowing that the room may feel loud when full. One reviewer found it difficult to hear across the table and reported waiting for water during a busy visit, while other guests praised attentive service. La Boulangerie may suit a casual breakfast, a pastry-and-coffee break, or a meal with friends who do not mind a bustling setting. Its address on Magazine Street makes it a convenient bakery stop while exploring this part of New Orleans; check current details directly before planning around specific hours, which are not provided here.

If you're looking for a legit French bakery where locals actually hang out, this is it. It's tucked right in the Garden District, surrounded by cute shops and pretty streets that are fun to wander around. The pastry case is seriously stunning, with so many things that look amazing. I loved seeing people working on their laptops while others were just chilling in the little courtyard out back—it kind of feels like a hidden little escape. I got the key lime pie, and wow... I don't even know how to describe it. Easily one of the best desserts I've ever had. My daughter got the chocolate cake, but even though I love chocolate, I kept going back to my own dessert. My husband had the croissant, and it was exactly what you'd want, flaky, buttery, and so good. If you want to get out of the French Quarter and check out a different side of New Orleans, definitely stop by here. Just maybe don't tell too many people... I'd kind of like to keep this one a secret.
Spacious, delicious French bakery and cafe. The pastry showcase has delightful options including several types of flaky croissants. The vast dining room has many tables with quick service and a humm of activity. I look forward to returning to try more of their options! There is free parking on surrounding streets. Magazine Street offers many shops and bars to visit after the bakery.
We came here two days in a row. Exceptional service. Didn’t miss anything and the taste of the food is top notch. Cannot recommend it more. Every single element in every single dish is very thoughtful and nothing feels overwhelming or too much. We demolished everything we got and will definitely be returning. If you’re in NOLA and don’t know this place, what are you doing?
Come for the baguettes and the croissant. Try the "l'atlantique" and "le parisien"+brown mustard. Great coffee and the chocolate cake to finish it. Highly recommend 👌 …
very loud here and took us a while to get our water since they were busy. the water was also pretty warm which wasn’t nice in the hot weather. i could barely hear the person sitting across from me which was kinda annoying. however the breakfast sandwich on the croissant was absolutely phenomenal. the croissant was soft and buttery and the sausage was perfectly meaty and salty and the egg completed it well. def not healthy but very tasty. the carrot cake was very good as well and i acc liked the cake and the frosting and it was a nice sized piece. the yogurt parfait is nothing special and overpriced and can easily be made at home for way cheaper and better. the yogurt was not very sweet at all even w the honey and berries. if you come get the sandwiches and the food here is def tasty.
