Master Kong(SE Hawthorne Blvd) is a Chinese restaurant in Portland, Oregon, at 1522 SE 32nd Ave, Portland, OR 97214. It offers a broad menu of Chinese dishes, including roujiamo, jianbing, dumplings, noodles, and drinks such as Hong Kong-style milk tea and grapefruit lemonade. Customer reviews describe the food as flavorful and the servings as generous, making this a practical choice when you want a hearty meal at a reasonable price. The restaurant has a 4.7 rating from 391 reviews, and its varied menu gives returning guests plenty of dishes to explore.

Several signature items stand out in diners’ descriptions. Roujiamo, sometimes called a meat folder, is praised for its crisp exterior and flavorful filling. Jianbing offers a distinctive texture, while pork dumplings and xiaolong chicken soup dumplings give dumpling fans a couple of options to consider. Other customer-mentioned choices include sesame noodles and beef brisket noodle soup. Reviews note that portions can be larger than they first appear, with shareable orders such as roujiamo served two at a time and dumplings available in larger quantities. Consider ordering with a group if you would like to sample more than one dish.

The ordering style is casual and self-directed: customers place orders at a kiosk rather than through traditional full table service. Reviewers say this can make it easier to take time choosing from the extensive menu, and families have found the kiosk engaging for children. The small, street-side setting has accommodated a group of seven, though one reviewer noted arriving early before a rush. Staff have been described as nice, and the overall experience suits diners who are comfortable ordering at a screen and prefer a relaxed meal rather than formal service. As with any busy restaurant, timing may affect how quickly you find a seat.

Master Kong is open daily from 11:00 a.m. Its posted closing time is 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Sunday, and 10:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. That schedule makes it an option for lunch, an early dinner, or a meal before an evening show. Visitors can find it at 1522 SE 32nd Ave in Portland. Whether you are stopping in for dumplings and noodles, trying jianbing and roujiamo for the first time, or sharing several dishes with family and friends, the menu offers a range of choices in one casual neighborhood restaurant. Check the current hours before visiting, especially if your plans depend on a late meal.

You may, as I did, walk into Master Kong and assume that the portions are small, given the vast menu and reasonable prices. Do not do this. The portions are large and hearty, with shareable sizes (2 roujiamo per order, for example, or up to a dozen dumplings) and the food is delicious. You will not regret ordering too much food, as I did, but you will feel it. Master Kong is delicious. I have longed for Chinese food of this quality for a long time, and I'm ecstatic that it can be found here - for a good price, in a perfect location. Do yourself a favor and go!

Really enjoyed everything I tried. The meat folder (roujiamo) was crispy and flavorful, the jianbing had delicious texture, and the pork dumplings were tasty as well. Nice flavors to the hong kong style milk tea and the grapefruit lemonade. Good food for good prices. Will be back to try more.

I stopped here before a show tonight, WOW. This is my new favorite spot and I will be returning next week! My boyfriend and I loved the kiosk since we like debating a little bit before we order. We ordered the xiaolong chicken soup dumplings, the jianbing and beef brisket noodle soup. And of course a hong kong style tea to wash it all down. I am impressed! The service was amazing, all of the women working the floor were so nice and accommodating. It’s clean, quiet and cozy. The food though, next level. The beef brisket here is the best I’ve ever had, I was so moved by it I had to say something to the waitress on the way out!! I saved half of the jianbing and I’m eating it now as I write this. Please stop by and give this a try. It was wonderful and the highlight of my night, me and my boyfriend cannot shut up about it!!

Cute little restaurant right off the street. We had 7 people and were able to sit right away (luckily we got there early enough before a rush hit). You use a kiosk to actually order your food instead of a traditional wait staff. This made it fun for the kids. Since we had so many people, we just opted to have everyone buy a variety of dim sum type apps so we could try everything. The steamed vegetables (while we all debated on what they actually were - broccolini? Cabbage ? ) were really good! The kids loved the egg rolls and were their favorite part. A little on the oily side, but very flavorful. We tried two different dumplings and by far everyone enjoyed the Chinese style better. I wasn’t impressed with the bao buns but we will definitely be back to try what we missed.
