Several dishes come up repeatedly in diners’ recommendations. The General Chicken combo is a favorite for one regular customer, while others call out broccoli chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, and Szechuan Chicken. Thai curry shrimp and Szechuan tofu also have fans; reviewers describe enjoying the shrimp and, when prepared to their liking, crisp tofu with vegetables in a mildly spicy, thick sauce. Fresh-looking, colorful vegetables are another positive note in one review. These are customer-reported favorites rather than a guarantee that every visit or order will be exactly the same, but they offer a helpful starting point when deciding what to try.
Some of the details that distinguish a meal here may be the sides and accompaniments. Reviewers praise the sweet tea, with one describing its taste as sweet with a citrus note, and another says it pairs well with a meal. Spring rolls are described by a customer as appearing homemade, while the hot-and-sour soup earns a positive mention for its rich flavor and smooth texture. Feedback is not uniformly positive: other reviews mention bland fried rice or soup, gummy wontons, missing dumpling sauce, and variation in portions or preparation. Reading the range of experiences can help set realistic expectations, especially when ordering a less familiar dish.
For people in New Orleans looking for a straightforward Chinese meal, Ming Garden may suit a quick lunch, a casual dinner, or an order built around a familiar chicken combo. The customer accounts also suggest choices for diners who prefer shrimp, tofu, vegetables, or soup. The reviews refer to both frequent ordering and delivery-app orders, so takeout is part of how some customers enjoy the restaurant; confirm current ordering options directly before making plans. Whether you are stopping by or choosing a meal to take home, the address on N Broad Street and the posted daily hours make it easy to find and plan around. Consider starting with one of the dishes mentioned by local reviewers, and keep in mind that individual results can vary.

The sweet tea is the best I've ever had. I always get the General Chicken combo. This place is the best all around. The shrimp are big and fresh . Mmmmm..I'm going order it again. Lol
The vegetables are colorful and fresh, as is everything else. Spring rolls appear to be homemade, the hot 'n' sour soup is rich in flavor and silky smooth. Our favorites are Kung Pao Chicken and Szechuan Chicken. The last time we ordered a pork dish (June 2024), they skimped on the protein, which was little slivers of dry pork. Regardless, Ming Garden remains our go-to American Chinese takeout restaurant near the Bywater.
We order here pretty often, so it’s obviously not bad at all. My spouse is always happy with the broccoli chicken. I love the Thai curry shrimp, always delicious. Half the time the Szechuan tofu is great, perfectly crispy tofu in a lightly spicy thick sauce with good veggies. The other half of the time the tofu comes pretty soft/soggy. I also wish it were spicier, I’ve tried ordering it extra spicy but ultimately just add chili oil at home. My kids don’t recommend the boneless ribs, my spouse said they were ok but don’t reheat well. The spring rolls are exactly what you’d expect, I’d love a couple more veg appetizers but I know that’s asking a lot. Ultimately it’s a very respectable takeout choice.
General Tso’s chicken looked NOTHING like the pic. The fried rice was beyond bland. Dumplings don’t come with sauce. Wonton soup was full of veggies, broth super bland, wontons gummy. Only thing decent was the eggroll.
This place has the best sweet tea! I know it sounds crazy but the first time i ordered one on Uber Eats I was so shocked how good it was. If you get any of their delicious food, you have to get the tea. Its so sweet and citrus tasting.
