Mitsuwa Marketplace - San Jose is one of the Bay Area's most beloved Japanese grocery stores, located at 675 Saratoga Ave in San Jose, CA. With an impressive 4.5-star rating drawn from over 5,000 customer reviews, this market has clearly earned a loyal following among locals who appreciate authentic Japanese food, quality products, and a genuinely welcoming shopping atmosphere. Whether you're a longtime fan of Japanese cuisine or simply curious about exploring new flavors and ingredients, Mitsuwa offers an experience that goes well beyond a typical grocery run.
What makes Mitsuwa Marketplace stand out is its remarkable variety. Inside, you'll find a full supermarket stocked with general groceries, fresh produce, high-quality seafood, and premium meat cuts — all alongside an impressive selection of Japanese snacks, beverages, condiments, and pantry staples. Beyond the grocery aisles, the store also carries Japanese cosmetics, household goods, and even a small bookstore, making it a true one-stop destination for anyone interested in Japanese culture and everyday products. It's the kind of place where you can pick up ingredients for a homemade dinner, discover a new favorite snack, and browse beauty products all in a single visit.
One of the biggest draws is the on-site food court, where several restaurants serve freshly prepared dishes that keep customers coming back. Visitors frequently rave about the katsu curry udon, praising both its rich flavor and the generous portion sizes — even the standard size is satisfying. You can also grab convenient ready-to-eat options like beautifully arranged sushi trays, bento boxes, onigiri (rice balls), and warm rice bowls from the open fridge sections near the front of the store. The bakery and dessert selection is equally tempting, featuring matcha cream puffs, mini taiyaki, and trays of futomaki and inari that are perfect for a quick snack or sharing with friends. For those looking to pick up a thoughtful gift, there's a dedicated section with premium food items beautifully packaged and ready to give.
The atmosphere at Mitsuwa Marketplace is clean, organized, and genuinely inviting. The food vendors near the entrance offer casual seating, making it easy to enjoy a meal on the spot before or after your shopping. Families, foodies, and solo shoppers alike will find something to love here. It's the kind of place where you might walk in for a quick browse and end up spending an hour happily discovering new products you didn't know you needed. The staff is helpful, and the overall layout makes it easy to navigate even during busier hours.
Mitsuwa Marketplace - San Jose is open every day of the week from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, so you can stop by at your convenience whether it's a weekday errand or a weekend outing. While some shoppers note that prices can be slightly higher than other local Japanese markets, the quality of the products, the breadth of selection, and the overall experience more than justify the visit. Mitsuwa Marketplace is a large Japanese grocery store that offers something for everyone. They have general groceries, ready to eat foods, cosmetics and much more. They also have a small food court with a few restaurants and some chairs/tables and bench seating. This is a great market place to grab some of your favorite Japanese items and a bite to eat. The store itself is 5 stars to me as they have something for everyone. The only reason for 1 star off is that the parking here is horrific. The parking lot is shared with other stores and restaurants in the shopping center, so it is extremely difficult to find parking. People are very aggressive when fighting over parking spaces and when leaving, be very careful of people driving around cars that are parked waiting for someone to leave a parking spot. Be prepared to spend 10-20 minutes finding a parking spot unless you get very lucky!
Within the supermarket, there is a food court, a bookstore, and a store that sells premium food items as gifts. However, their grocery prices are more expensive than those at the Tokyo Central on Stevens Creek. Because their snack selection isn't as wide, I still prefer to do my Japanese grocery shopping at Tokyo Central.
There are food vendors in the front of the market, with seating. There are open fridge sections that have bakery goods, sushi, onigiri, rice bowls, cooked meats, produce, seafood and meat. I bought a large tray of futomaki and inari, matcha cream puffs, and mini taiyaki.
I just want in for a quick browsing to see what this Japanese supermarket can offer? I’m amazed by the selection and choices that they offer from sushi tays to bento boxes to rice ball and many others! That’s why I took so many photos of it. They also have a very nice Japanese style sweets store that offer beautiful Japanese style sweets And another thing may attract me is there a food court that I can see it will be very busy on the weekends! The grocery store part is bit messy to me if you ever visited a supermarket in Japan, but this is in San Jose California.
