For anyone searching for an Asian supermarket in San Francisco, especially around Chinatown, this is a spot that often comes up for good reason.
One of the first things people notice about New Asia Supermarket is its unusual setting. The store was built inside a former Chinese restaurant, and much of that original interior still remains. Chandeliers, banquet-style details, and traces of the earlier dining space give the market a look that feels distinct from a typical grocery run. Instead of feeling flashy, the setting adds character and a quiet charm. Reviewers often mention how interesting it is to browse the aisles while noticing the old restaurant decor still woven into the space.
In everyday terms, what matters most is that the store feels spacious compared with many other markets in the area. Shoppers describe it as one of the larger stores in San Francisco Chinatown, with a broad layout that makes it easier to move around and shop without the tight, crowded feeling common in smaller neighborhood groceries. Customers also note that the displays are neat and the selection covers many of the basic produce items and pantry essentials people expect from an Asian grocery store. Competitive pricing adds to the appeal, especially for regular grocery trips rather than just occasional specialty shopping.
The atmosphere at New Asia Supermarket seems especially well suited to people who prefer a calmer shopping experience. Because it is often described as less crowded than other nearby stores, it can be a comfortable choice for quick weekday errands, relaxed browsing, or picking up ingredients without the rush. Its daytime hours make it a practical stop for locals, nearby workers, and visitors exploring San Francisco during the day. Whether you are stocking up on produce and staples or simply want a more open market layout, the store offers a reliable option.
For FindALoco users looking for a Vietnamese-owned or Asian grocery experience in San Francisco, California, New Asia Supermarket offers something simple but valuable: everyday groceries in a setting with real local personality. Sign in to reviewMay 2025 Asian supermarket built within an old resto and still holds much of the interior decor of the old establishment. This strange and unobtrusive style actually adds to the charm and simplicity of the place. It is arguably the largest store in SF Chinatown with most of the basic produce and items you would need to find. Though most of the brands will reflect more mid ranged brands this is a go to store if you are looking for those essential supplies. Credit cards are acceptable.
This is such a surprisingly spacious asian grocery store because it used to be a chinese restaurant that served dim sum, dinners, and hosted banquets. The remnants of the restaurant can be seen all over and it's fun to walk around looking for them i.e. the stunning chandeliers that still hang from the ceilings. The store has quite a nice variety of asian food and items. Some produce are higher in price than other places close around but some snacks and food are fair and cheaper than other places so it's a mixed bag when it comes to the price. It's quite fun to just even walk around the store to see what products they have.
Market is spacious compared to the others in town. Prices are competitive. The cashier women is not competent in math, so I recommend that you estimate the cost of your groceries and count your monetary change that she returns to you. I’m unsure if they take VISA/MasterCard, but there’s a sign accepting EBT card.
What was once a fancy Chinese banquet restaurant is now a a grocery store. The clash of the architecture and the function is almost unbelievable and surreal.
It was a restaurant and now it became a supermarket. It's not as crowded as other stores and the display is pretty neat.
