food overall is decent. most of the meats /dish didn’t taste fresh at all, especially the rendang (and it was super hard to chew) so I wouldnt recommend it at all. the fried chicken (indo style) is actually very delicious, which is what I would consistently get. not a big fan of the qr code style service (you also couldn’t ask for an extra spicy sauce, have to get 3 of them in the menu as a set). nothing is modifiable either - the dining place is also a little dark, interior is more on the practical side than comfort for customers. if you’re down to try best indonesian food next time, I’d suggest Fikscue to compare (at least the food tastes way more fresh!).

Got the padang platter delivered and it was sooo good! Variety of different items that were all very bold and flavorful. Big portions as well, this platter fed 2 easily. Not pictured are the rice crackers which were a nice crunchy additional to each bite. Loved that it was gluten free and the menu had clear gf labels!

Since Berkeley’s Jayakarta closed, I’ve been looking for truly Indonesian (not Singaporean) food in the Bay Area. RASA RASA Kitchen (R2K) is a great find. Warm, welcoming owner-chef, vibrant and authentic flavors. We loved the fried tempeh, Javanese nasi goreng, and the Padang platter with deeply flavorful rendang. Clean, artfully decorated space with lots of character. Minor note: kerupuk could be crunchier. I’ll definitely be back.

Love this spot — everything from the food to the service is great. When we walked in, we were warmly welcomed. They chatted with us about what we knew about Indonesian food and made some great recommendations based on what we were looking for. We loved every dish — a unique combination of spices, yet so balanced; each dish has its own distinct flavors. Definitely order their sambal — we even had to order extra to bring home! The service is genuine, and we loved asking questions and learning more. Really appreciate that such a spot exists in an expensive SF neighborhood, continuing to share their passion and food. We will definitely be back many times! We also have no problem using QR code ordering. Nowadays, small restaurants are facing a lot of changes, so switching to QR code ordering is totally fine, and I hope people can be more understanding. Plus, the people behind the counter are still so nice and helpful. Let’s all keep this type of place alive!
