I came here after it went viral on IG. I learned Ramesh and Sandra the restaurant/bakery owners they have been there for 19+ years. They deserve 10 stars. They make you feel right at home! They have a lot of great groceries, however check your expiration dates, especially on the golden ray (i didnt realize this til after i got home!) The doubles were good but I did not grow up eating aloo or potatoes in the doubles so that was a first for me and I did not like it. I ordered the shrimp curry with dhalpuri and the shrimps were huge and juicy! Though I am not a coconut fan the salara was pretty tasty. Cheese roll not too bad but bread little dry. Their homemade pepper sauce that came with the shrimp curry was delicious. Disappointed they did not have pimento pepper, pine tart, egg ball, or currants roll, on this shopping trip but I will be back. Also, they forgot my extra dhalpuri roti but they were super nice had a wide variety of items including murtis, puja essentials. And for a little shop, it had a lot of heart!
When I found out Tampa had a grocery / restaurant specializing in food from Guyana, we had to check it out. We’ve never had Guyanese food so this was our opportunity! It’s about an hour from home and well worth the drive! Ramesh greeted us and welcomed us to his spotless, well lit and unique store. Honestly, I didn’t recognize many of the products for sale but that’s part of the adventure! Ramesh explained they serve meat or veggie pies plus jerk chicken pies (which were sold out). I got a spicy meat pie and a veggie pie and am pleased to report they are made in house. I asked what Ramesh would recommend as a main dish and he said chicken curry with roti. Bam! That’s what I ordered! Ramesh was very enthusiastic, helpful and gracious as we chatted about Guyana, their cuisine and their history. All of the food was fresh, flavorful but not too spicy, affordable and fun! My wonderful wife and I enjoyed it! We look forward to returning! Life is good with an authentic and interesting cuisine!
Came from recommendation. This place is a fantastic place for Caribbean cuisine, including those who are new to it like myself. The store owners are very kind and enthusiastic. The grocery store products are unique and hard to find elsewhere. The food is phenomenal. My only complaint is I wish this place was closer to work so I can grab some after lunch!
It was a little crowded for my 1st time going but once I saw the store packed with all the natural Caribbean items and tasted the amazing Goat Roti, and Doubles. I understood why. This was amazing and it’s great to know I only live 20min …
As soon as I entered the owner greeted me like I had been there every day.Great positive vibesIt was the day before mother's day. She was so sweet, and kind her mom did an Amazing job. She recommended a few items to buy.We bought 6 buss up shirts. As the member of Trini family. This a great place for Guyanese food. The roti was moist with plenty of everything. As a Jamaican the curry coat was yummy and the pepper was singing. The chicken was a bit dry,so sad. I bought all the bun / cheese I could find. I even got my shillings oil and turmeric soap. My children found new baked goods to try, like cherries in sweet and siur preserve. The flow of traffic was a bit unorganized. There is just one line so you have to wait until the lady is free to tell her your food order while she is ringing up purchases.I found something called tennis balls , she suggested a fresher bag and they have sweet sour plums. Her husband was too cool and funny also, they make a perfect pair. You could see that they take good care of the community. I will budget before I go back and check for the patties ,but they were sold out. I have a menu so 😋 I will be prepared next time.
