Sign in to reviewSo Pho So Good -Outer Sunset what a tacky name synonymous to many other Asian names from “Eat Me Sushi,” Boba “Head,” Boba “Butt,” Boba “Bird,” Boba “Pink,” Boba “Guys,” Boba “Girls,” Boba “Bai Bao,” “By Me Boba Tea” to “Momo,” “Happy,” “Yummy,” “Sweet,” “Good Mood,” and “Good luck” dumplings shops all the way to infamous bad fengshui “Kaiju Eats” {“Who”} on Geary and Balboa. 😂 In a nutshell, this is an average pho shop (out of nearly 80 shops in The City), fairly reasonably priced, quiet and clean place on Noriega at 32nd Avenue in Outer Sunset. In any event, I have tried its Pho several times and Hainan chicken once. The Pho tasted like plain broth injected with powder with no aromas of beef bone, ginger, anise, cloves, cinnamon sticks, coriander seeds, cardamom pods, and fennel seeds, etc.; however, its ingredients are sufficiently included from beef steak slices, tendons, meatballs along with herb leaves, bean sprouts, jalapeno and limon. [*By comparison, the quantity of its pho imhv would beat the Chicken Pho on the next block only had bowl of pho with plain broth plus a few slices of shredded chicken meat nothing else; or that declining “Kevin’s Pho” located on Irving between 19th and 20th Avenue with less and less ingredients almost nothing but powdered broth and bánh phở. What a shame! 😬 😩] Hainan chicken was a clean-cut plate nicely presented but had a metallic flavor likely due to the lack of proper marination or preparation/cooking. In sum, it's a to-go place if you happen to be in the hood.
Vietnamese sandwich was using Dutch crunch and the bread was on the salty side, the cold cuts were not good, and there was a smell of the pate. The Vietnamese coffee was filled with ice. $14.07 wasted and I throw the sandwich away! Will not come back!
Wow, we finished a 60 mile bike ride in the rain and needed something warm. We got a chicken pho and a bbq pork with imperial rolls. The good part is that they are generous with the quantity of food. The bad is that the pho broth taste like boiled water. It was flavorless and sooo disappointing. The bbq pork was exactly the same, with no flavor of any kind. The meat tasted like they just microwaved the meat and threw it on the plate. They get some points in that the imperial rolls were good. The restaurant is clean and spacious but it’s too bad the food is sooo poorly made.
Solid vietnamese food in the sunset district. The vermicelli dish was great. I love the seasoned pork and the tang from the pickled vegetables. We all ordered pho and that was pretty good as well. The meat was not overcooked as long as you ready it before it sits too long in the hot broth.
Super solid pho (little bit more expensive but hey it’s SF). Pho has plenty of flavor, soup is good and enough meat. Viet Ice coffee comes how it’s supposed to come. All in all I’d definitely come back to try some more of the other dishes. They definitely also have a lot of other Vietnamese items that aren’t offered everywhere.
