Thai Nghiep Ky Mi Gia is a well-known Vietnamese restaurant in San Francisco, CA, tucked into the Outer Sunset at 1427 Noriega St. With a 4.5 rating from 360 reviews, this neighborhood spot has built a strong local following for comforting noodle dishes, especially for diners looking for a satisfying bowl of wonton egg noodles or duck noodle soup. It is the kind of place people seek out when they want something hearty, focused, and dependable, without unnecessary fuss. The dining room is described as small and unassuming, which adds to its everyday, local feel.

What stands out most at Thai Nghiep Ky Mi Gia is its clear specialty: wonton noodles paired with richly prepared duck. Multiple customers specifically highlight the #7 braised duck leg with won ton egg noodle soup, often noting that the duck is extremely tender and falls right off the bone. The egg noodles, pickled vegetables on the side, and the option to have the soup served separately all come up as memorable details. That side-soup style is especially appreciated because it lets the sauce from the duck coat the noodles first, while diners can add broth gradually as they eat. For many guests, that combination creates a balanced, flavorful meal that feels both comforting and distinct.

The restaurant seems especially well suited for people who love classic Vietnamese-Chinese noodle house flavors, whether they are returning for a favorite order or trying a recommended house dish for the first time. Reviews point to attentive, fast service and reasonable prices, which makes this San Francisco restaurant a practical choice for lunch, a casual solo meal, or a simple outing with family or friends. Guests also note that there is often a line during lunch hours, a helpful sign that this local spot is in steady demand. Because the dining area is not large, coming at an off-peak time may be a more relaxed option.

For locals and visitors searching for a reliable Vietnamese restaurant in San Francisco, California, Thai Nghiep Ky Mi Gia offers a very specific kind of appeal: flavorful noodle soups, tender duck, and a straightforward neighborhood atmosphere. Some diners who grew up with mì vịt tiềm compare the broth to the versions they remember and find it a little less deep or aromatic than their personal ideal, but even those reviews still reflect an overall positive experience. Taken together, the feedback paints a picture of a place people return to for well-executed noodles, comforting soup, and one standout duck leg dish that has become a signature for this corner of San Francisco, CA.

A truly wonderful meal. I opted for the #7 at the recommendation of the nice gentleman who took our order. The duck fell right off the bone!!! and was possibly the best I have ever had. Everything from the egg noodles to the pickled vegetable that came on the side was amazing. I also had a delicious glass of soy milk to accompany my meal. Highly recommend!

#7 braised duck leg with won ton egg noodle soup - thin noodles and soup on the side. Second time eating here. I really like what I got that I got it again. The duck meat is really tender that it falls off the bone. I like the soup on the side so the sauce of the duck is with the noodles and not diluted in the soup. Both times was in a weekend and there is a wait so make sure to have someone put their name down asap! I don't remember how long the wait was but I believe it's not more than an hour from the two times I went. They only have two tables for more than four people.

In my quest for a Mì Vịt Tiềm I found this small unassuming restaurant. I am happy with their Duck Stew noodle soup but I am unable to offer the 5th star because this special soup here is a bit shy of the authentic flavor I grew up with in Sàigòn. The flavor of the soup is not deep and aromatic enough. I think the herbs used are not sufficient in kind or amount. The duck leg looks just golden from the frying, not black brown from the herbs stewing for many hours. The meat is well cooked, soft and tasty but does not taste as good may be due to the absence of some spices. (Don’t ask me what spices. Only the chefs know.) Those of you who enjoyed this Duck Stew soup in Saigon in the 60’s and before 1975 know exactly what I mean. Our family favorite restaurant then was the Mỹ Phụng Mì Gia close by the Roundabout “Ngă 6 Sàigòn”. Will I return to Thái Nghiệp Ký? Absolutely YES. Their soup is good even if not fully match my search. I don’t complain just keep on searching. All in all we all should lend our support to this family owned local restaurant. 🪴

Excellent restaurant with a focus on wonton noodles with a incredible duck leg in a wonderful soup. The soup is very good with a nice complexity and can be served on the side which is recommended. The duck is extremely tender and flavorful. You can add the soup into it as you eat. The table is stocked with lots of condiments. Also you can have either hot or cold soy milk which is complementary which is also a wonderful touch especially in cooler San Francisco. We really enjoyed our meal but it can get crowded and the owner is very very nice, other servers however are a little less friendly.

Always a line outside during lunch hours. So, we decided to come here late afternoon. It's not a big dining area. They only have one big table for a party of 8 max. The duck leg was tender and juicy. The portion was good enough for one. The service was attentive and fast. Price is reasonable. We will go again to try other dishes. Stay tuned.
