UMI TEA & RAMEN is a casual Japanese restaurant in Fremont, CA, serving ramen bowls and tea drinks at 43691 Mission Blvd, Fremont, CA 94539. Located in a strip mall across from Ohlone College, it is easy to keep in mind for students, neighborhood regulars, and anyone passing through the Mission Boulevard area who wants a straightforward bowl of ramen without a formal dining setup. With a 4.1-star rating from 92 reviews, the restaurant has built a steady local presence around comfort food, quick visits, and an atmosphere that feels relaxed rather than rushed.

The menu centers on ramen, with customer mentions of classic ramen, vegetarian ramen, spicy options, extra chashu, egg, pork, and broth-focused bowls. Diners who enjoy heat may appreciate the spice levels, while guests who are sensitive to spice may want to start with no spice or level 1, since level 2 has been described as quite spicy. Reviews also point to tea drinks, including Thai milk tea, as part of the experience, making UMI TEA & RAMEN a convenient stop when one person wants noodles and another wants a simple drink or lighter order.

The setting is unassuming but welcoming, with a clean dining area, wall paintings, and background jazz that some guests describe as giving the room a cozy, Japanese-inspired feel. Because the restaurant is near a local college, lunch may be quieter, while the afternoon can become busier when students arrive after class. The modest strip-mall location also makes it feel approachable for first-time visitors who prefer an easy, no-pressure meal. That rhythm makes it a practical choice for an early lunch, a casual after-school bite, or a low-key dinner before 7:30 PM.

As with many neighborhood restaurants, feedback is mixed in useful ways. Several customers praise the tasty ramen, the well-cooked egg and pork components, and friendly service, while others have noted occasional order accuracy or temperature concerns. For local diners comparing ramen spots in Fremont, this balanced reputation is helpful: UMI TEA & RAMEN is best approached as a casual, student-friendly Japanese restaurant where the stronger visits are centered on hot ramen, customizable spice, add-ons like chashu, and a comfortable dine-in environment.

Open daily from 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM, UMI TEA & RAMEN offers consistent hours throughout the week, which is useful for planning a weekday lunch, a weekend meal, or an afternoon ramen stop near Mission Boulevard. For people searching for a Japanese restaurant in Fremont, CA with ramen, tea drinks, a clean casual space, and proximity to Ohlone College, this restaurant fits best for students, solo diners, small groups, and local families looking for a simple, satisfying meal in the neighborhood.

2027-04-29 Located across from Ohlone College so there was almost no lunchtime crowd. I was told that the busy time is after 3 PM when the students will come to eat. The place was clean and the food was OK. The service was good. I would say a solid four stars.

Overall not a great experience for us. The food way okay...but the service was not good. When we ordered, we clearly stated that we would like the classic ramen, but the cashier added the vegetarian ramen instead. We didn't notice until the food came, which had a bunch of tomatoes and carrots (something that shouldn't go in ramen). The ramen was bland either way, and we had to ask for the chashew meat that was supposed to come with the classic ramen. We got our meat, but it was very dry and not very pleasant to eat.

Ramen was tasty but we got level 2 spicy (out of 4 levels 0 1 2 3) which was too spicy for us so I’d go with no spicy or level 1 spicy in the future. I got extra chashu on mine. The vibe/atmosphere is nice too with the paintings on the wall and nice background jazz music playing it gives cozy Japanese hole in the wall vibes.

Its as if the ramen was prepared yesterday, it wasnt very hot at all. The server was very nice and the thai milk tea was OK, but the ramen felt low quality. there are much better ramens for a similar price if not cheaper at restaurants not far from this one

This unassuming restaurant is located in a strip mall across a local community college. The ramen was absolutely delicious, and is by far, one of the best ramen bowls I’ve ever eaten! I really appreciate that every component of the soup was perfectly cooked: the texture and flavor of the egg and pork slice, the noodles, the incredibly fragrant black garlic oil and miso broth, and perfectly marinated bamboo slices. The interior was clean, and nicely decorated. There’s soft jazz music playing in the background which helps set the tone for a relaxing atmosphere. Service was friendly and efficient.
