With a 4.5 rating across more than 1,000 reviews, it is a place many locals return to when they want something satisfying, familiar, and full of character.
What draws people in most is the bakery case itself: a wide variety of pastries and baked items that look beautiful without feeling overly fancy. Customers often mention that the desserts are not too sweet, which makes them especially appealing for people who prefer balanced flavor over heavy sugar. Favorites from reviews include the poppy seed rolls and cherry roll, both remembered not just for taste but for the nostalgia they bring. The bakery also earns praise for freshness, and that quality seems to come through across both sweet and savory items.
For shoppers looking for something more substantial, Moscow & Tbilisi Bakery Store is also known for savory choices that are harder to find elsewhere in San Francisco. Reviewers specifically point to chebureki as a standout, noting that they can sell out quickly, which says a lot about local demand. Piroshki are another popular option for an easy lunch or snack, and customers frequently describe the portions as generous and the prices as fair. For anyone exploring specialty baked foods beyond the usual café lineup, this bakery offers a more distinctive and culturally rooted stop.
The atmosphere comes across as family-run, practical, and community-based rather than polished or trendy. That matters for people searching for an authentic local bakery in San Francisco, CA, especially one with long-time regulars and food that inspires repeat visits. It is a good fit for neighborhood residents, families picking up pastries, people craving nostalgic baked goods, and visitors who want to try something different from standard American bakery fare. Because some popular items may sell out, coming earlier can be a smart move if you have something specific in mind.
For anyone searching for a trusted bakery in San Francisco, CA, Moscow & Tbilisi Bakery Store offers a combination of freshness, variety, and old-world comfort that keeps customers coming back. Whether you stop in for a poppy seed roll, a cherry pastry, chebureki, or piroshki, the appeal here is simple: flavorful food, solid value, and a local presence that has clearly meant a lot to many people over the years.

Sign in to reviewFresh, locally crafted, cultural delights! I personally love the poppy seed rolls! They bring me back to my youth when my friend’s mother would make them fresh when I’d come over for a visit.
Horrible experience after being a loyal customer for more than 10 years. The woman who spoke with me by phone needs some psychological therapy and a serious hospitality education. Very aggressive tone. She tried to prove that the meat at her place cannot be not fresh, but obviously that meat was sour and most of it in bright pink color. It was obviously raw meat. I don’t have any reason for conflicts for $19, but that was my time spent to commute to that “cafe” which will never come back to me and the whole disappointed situation. She said “come and bring these chebureks and I will try them myself”. And I did - but she wasn’t there. She said “I know you well and you’re complaining all the time”. But I never complained in the past (!) That’s just sick. I will NEVER EVER come back to this place.
This is a family owned and run bakery and it comes through the food too. Everything is fresh. And pastries are not only beautiful but delicious too. Not too sweet and many options to choose from.
One of the few places to get chebureki in the city- they sometimes sell out quickly (for good reason), and remember to bring cash if you’re getting anything under 5
I’ve eaten here several times now and today I decided to leave a review because it’s consistently delicious. The prices are great and the portion sizes are generous. The cherry roll is to die for. The other desserts are also beyond amazing. For savory, the peroski is a great choice. I will continue to eat here most definitely.
