The available reviews present a mixed picture. Other reviewers report long waits in the emergency department, crowded or uncomfortable waiting and care areas, delays getting a room, and difficulty communicating with staff or teams. One account also raises concerns about follow-up after discharge and reliance on MyChart for communication. These comments are individual reports rather than a guarantee of what another patient will experience, but they may help prospective patients and families think through what questions to ask.

For people considering Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, FL, it may be useful to prepare a current medication list, relevant medical information, and a contact person for updates, when appropriate. Patients and family members can ask staff how updates will be shared, who to contact with questions, and what to expect while waiting for a room or procedure. If care involves multiple doctors or teams, asking who is coordinating communication may help clarify next steps. For urgent or emergency symptoms, seek appropriate medical help rather than relying on online reviews or directory information.

This hospital may be relevant to Tampa-area residents looking for a general hospital, as well as visitors supporting a loved one through emergency, inpatient, or surgery-related care described by reviewers. The feedback suggests that clinical interactions can be appreciated while the surrounding experience—such as waiting conditions, room availability, and communication—may be challenging for some people. The listing has a 3-star rating based on 2,536 reviews, reflecting a range of reported experiences rather than a prediction of an individual outcome. Before visiting, confirm details that matter to your situation, including where to go, current hours, and how the hospital handles patient and family updates.

Had the worst experience in the ER department 15+ hours ( I’m still here as I’m writing this) waiting for a room in their green zone very uncomfortable seating area broken down into 2x4 cubicle spaces ( people in jail get more space) Tampa General you can do better! If you can’t house people with rooms then send them to another hospital no need to make your ER waiting area look like a 3rd world country with people laying on recliners and chairs all over the place waiting for a room!

Horrible Experience. Treated like a lab rat. My dog is treated better. USF specialized teams as individual doctors are good. But communication between and among them along with TGH staff needs improvement. They will not call you post discharge, but rather rope you around on virtual MyChart. You have no say, and it is difficult to keep typing messages back and forth. some (maybe 50%) nursing staff are wonderful, others do minimum, are nasty, talk negatively about patients literally right in front of you and really need to get out of the business. Call any department at TGH, you will never get in touch with anyone. On hold literally all day, no call back. "Too many cooks in the kitchen" so to speak. Listen to their advertisement - "Other hospitals practice medicine, we define it" as if being able to define is superior to being able to practice medicine. Good hospital for trauma patients; sadly, not really enough room, time or staff for the rest.

We are incredibly grateful to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff at Tampa General Hospital for the care and compassion they showed my husband during his stay. The nurses were attentive, kind, encouraging, and truly made a difficult experience more manageable for our family. The doctors were knowledgeable, thorough, and took the time to answer questions and provide reassurance throughout his treatment. We genuinely felt that many members of the staff cared deeply about their patients. There are a few areas where improvements could make the experience even better for long term patients and families. The CT scan/radiology department could be more proactive and considerate regarding patients being kept NPO, especially for those with serious conditions or weakened appetites. Communication and scheduling efficiency in that area would help tremendously. Additionally, the environmental services team could improve the consistency and thoroughness of room cleaning. Cleanliness is especially important for immunocompromised patients and those staying for extended periods. Another area for improvement would be the food services for long-term patients. After staying more than two weeks, the menu becomes very repetitive, and many patients already struggle with appetite and nutrition during treatment. Expanding meal options for lactose intolerant patients with special medical circumstances would make a meaningful difference in recovery and comfort. Overall, we are very thankful for the level of medical care my husband received. With improvements in these areas, I truly believe Tampa General Hospital could be an even more exceptional, world-class hospital experience for patients and families.
