Sign in to reviewI've had a sprained ankle that hasn't healed for 6+ years. No idea how it happened, but one day I woke up and if I tried to rotate on my left foot I'd feel the pain. I've seen multiple acupuncturists, had MRI's, x rays, orthopedists, massage, and cortisone shots, nothing helped. Today I visited a "master" acupuncturist who was a teacher for 13 years at an acupuncture school. He's also a physical therapist and came highly recommended by another acupuncturist when I asked "who is the absolute best?" Dr. Devin Wu in San Francisco felt around and was able to touch and tell me exactly where the pain was. He could tell where it was swollen and tender. What he said the mistake was that every other doctor made was they focused on the ankle, when the problem was upstream, specifically in my psoas and glutes. Everywhere he stuck a needle I felt my muscles twitch like a fish jumping out of water... After the roughly hour and a half session, my ankle felt 70% better. Unbelievable. I'm still sore, but I feel so much relief. Just a reminder that not everyone out there is equal in their craft.
It is always disturbing to me when I see one bad review at the top of the page of a truly excellent facility. So, I am giving my two-cents worth. First, when you are as busy as Dr. Wu, sometimes you can't give everyone the attention you'd like to give them. It's just the nature of a schedule filling up due to overwhelming success. On to my review- Dr Wu was one of my professors at San Francisco State. She has a deep knowledge of holistic health. She trains her staff to evaluate and treat people like she does. Although she wasn't in town during my visit last week, the people who did the evaluation were thorough and really covered a lot of ground to get to the bottom of the issues I had been experiencing. Unlike traditional (western) medicine, her staff members took time to dive into physical and emotional issues that may drive the symptoms. Although we try and separate the two, they are mindful that we have one body, and the two really can't be separated. I was so thankful for the really kind and professional way I was treated. While extremely knowledgable, her staff do not put a holier-than-thou attitude. Quite the opposite of haughty, they are friendly and professional and spent much longer than I expected listening to me and taking time for a thorough examination.
I'm not an alternative medicine kind of guy but when I pinched a nerve in my neck I was desperate. My wife connected me with Devin and he has been tremendous on supporting my road to recovery. Not just acupuncture but stretches, massage, homework. He really uses everything in his tool kit to get you as healthy as you can be.
After enduring daily migraines for over 3 decades, I was hoping Devin might be able to help me. Coming from Utah, I had been traveling most of the day and had developed a roaring stress headache on a Friday afternoon. After 30 minutes of treatment, the headache was 100% gone. Devin combined his education in physical therapy with acupressure and acupuncture. He treated me twice, and it's been two weeks since the last treatment. Initially, the frequency of my headaches dropped to one mild episode a day . . . I normally take 2 or 3 doses of Imitrex and NSAIDS every day. Today marks the sixth day with zero medication, and zero migraine pain. I'll return to see Devin whenever necessary to make sure this miracle of living pain free continues. "Healing Center" is the perfect name for this practice.
Dr. Wu and her staff are truly knowledgeable about what they are doing. Unlike many TCM practitioners I've worked with, they have grasped the true essence of Chinese medicine. I can tell the difference because I was custom to Chinese medicine when I was small. Dr. Wu is personable and charming. She is like a caring sister. Her staff are also extremely well trained. They never push patients to get more treatments. I was advised to go only when it's needed. I highly recommend this place.
