Custom ring design is a central part of the experience customers describe at Trabert Goldsmiths. Reviewers mention being guided from early ideas and sketches through CAD development and diamond selection, with attention to both the stone and the overall design. This makes the store especially suited to couples who want an engagement ring or wedding bands with personal details and a distinct point of view. People looking for something custom and unique, instead of an off-the-shelf option, can use these stages to clarify their preferences and make informed choices as the design takes shape.
The atmosphere conveyed in reviews is consultative, professional, and personal. Customers specifically recognize Eric and Melissa for helping them navigate decisions that can feel significant, from initial design questions to selecting diamonds and refining details. For engaged couples, first-time ring buyers, and anyone marking an important occasion, the appeal is the opportunity to discuss a piece in depth rather than rush through a generic purchase. The focus on listening and guidance is particularly useful when clients arrive with a broad concept but need help translating it into a finished ring.
Trabert Goldsmiths is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM and is closed Monday and Sunday. Its Fillmore Street address makes it a convenient jewelry-store option for people searching in San Francisco, CA. Since custom work can involve several stages, including design revisions and CAD review, it is helpful for clients to discuss the expected process, communication preferences, and timing for their specific piece early on. That practical clarity can support a smoother experience while keeping the attention on a ring or set of bands designed for the occasion.

Sign in to reviewWe bought both my custom engagement ring and our wedding bands from Trabert Goldsmiths, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. Eric was fantastic to work with and extremely knowledgeable. He helped us along through each step of the process of picking out the stone and the overall design of the rings. Eric taught us about Old European cuts and Old Mine cuts and found the perfect Old Euro cut for my center stone. I wanted a 3 stone ring, so Eric sourced 2 side stones to match the color, and to recut them to perfectly match my center stone. The final product is absolutely stunning and I love my engagement ring. It’s truly a special piece. I get so many compliments on it! I really appreciate Eric’s time, patience, and attention to detail throughout the process. Also, we recently picked up our custom wedding bands and once again, Eric and Kristy were wonderful to work with. We love the final outcome of our rings and couldn’t recommend Trabert Goldsmiths enough.
The Trabert team was fantastic. They helped me design my engagement ring from the ground up and made the whole process fast, professional, and genuinely enjoyable. I wanted something custom and unique and told a story, rather than something off the shelf. They really listened, guided me through the design, and brought that vision to life beautifully. The final ring feels deeply personal and completely one-of-a-kind, and it created such a special experience for my fiancée and me. I’m so happy with how everything turned out and would highly recommend Trabert to anyone looking for a thoughtful, custom engagement ring experience.
Eric helped us design and create our engagement ring, and we had an absolutely amazing experience. We wanted a custom design from start to finish, and Eric guided us through every step, from initial ideation and sketches to CAD and diamond selection. Whenever we felt stuck, he offered incredibly helpful opinions and options while always still making sure the ring was truly the one we wanted. He's clearly very passionate about the craft, and has a ton of experience creating beautiful bespoke jewelry. The final ring turned out perfect. We had such a great experience that we’re currently getting our wedding bands done with him as well!
We had the absolute best experience working with Trabert, and have recommended them to all of our friends. My fiancé and I designed my engagement ring here, and everyone was amazing. We worked with Melissa, and she was super helpful throughout the entire process. She gave great advice and was extremely patient with us. We ended up going back to design both of our wedding bands, 10/10 would recommend!
I'm really sad to be giving only two stars. However, when designing a custom engagement ring, my fiance had a really difficult time with Trabert which caused a lot of unnecessary stress. The issues were largely due to communication and promptness. For example, when they were iterating on the CAD, my fiance would reply with extremely clear/detailed notes on changes, and then not hear anything back for weeks, not knowing if the message was received or if the changes were possible. And then when a response finally came, it would be the CAD with barely anything changed and no explanation as to why certain changes couldn't be made. This happened quite a few times. I can understand that they are busy, especially around the holidays, and it is totally fair to push back on changes, but I think communication is important - my fiance had to double and triple email so many times in order to get a response. Another example is that Trabert shipped the ring with incorrect instructions, even though my fiance clearly communicated we needed a vacation hold, so that my fiance had to speak with FedEx customer service many times in order to get it. This was around the holidays so the Trabert office was closed. This was extremely stressful, because he wasn't sure if he would have the ring in time for the proposal, and even had to get a backup ring. Anyways, I would have to recommend going a different route if you want to do a fully custom ring and you're really detail oriented. It's really stressful when you're working under a timeline, and we started the process 5 months before the proposal which should've been plenty of time! And if you are working with Trabert, I would recommend picking the ring up in person instead of getting it shipped to you.
